On behalf of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, there was the participation of Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice Principal of the school and lecturers from the Faculty of Sociology and the Faculty of Psychology.
The workshop also received attention from researchers and students from the University of Education, Hanoi Capital University, Hanoi Pedagogical University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Labor and Social Affairs and Lumiere Institute for Psychological Research and Practice.
Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong emphasized: "There needs to be a correct perception of children with autism, that they are children like other normal children."
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities shared: As a leading training and research institution in the fields of social sciences and humanities in the country, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has successfully implemented many studies, scientific seminars, evaluation reports and made many recommendations and policy advice on social security and social work. In particular, the Faculty of Sociology under the school is focusing on improving the capacity of lecturers, aiming to support the community and train high-quality human resources, care and rehabilitation for autistic children.
Currently, in Vietnam as well as in the world, intervention and support for autistic children always face many difficulties not only for the families of the children, but also for intervention officers, instructors and vocational trainers. In addition, modern society has not yet fully and comprehensively recognized the urgency of the problem and there are still prejudices and many limitations in support services for autistic children.
Social services are considered to meet the needs of the community and individuals for social development. For autistic children, specialized social services are essential to help them receive intervention, care, and support to integrate into life. Currently, there is a lack of specialized educational facilities with suitable material conditions and teachers with specialized expertise in special education.
Within the framework of cooperation activities, support in training and scientific research of the Department of Social Protection, Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the School of Social Sciences and Humanities organized the scientific workshop "Developing human resources in Social Work in care and rehabilitation for autistic children". The workshop aims at two important goals:
(1) Evaluate the results of the current status of training human resources for care and rehabilitation work for autistic children (training programs, curriculum, training methods, practice, supervision, education and training principles, etc.)
(2) Propose solutions to develop qualified human resources to care for and rehabilitate autistic children.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hoi Loan - Lumiere Institute of Psychology Research and Practice presented the report "Training and fostering social workers in care, intervention, and treatment of autism spectrum disorders in children".
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Cong - University of Education presented the report "Raising awareness and providing information for parents with autistic children to study integrated through phone applications".
Dr. Do Nghiem Thanh Phuong - Hanoi Capital University presented the report "Interdisciplinary approach in supporting autistic children"
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thu Huong, Deputy Head of the Department of Psychology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, presented the report "Stress level, main sources of stress and the impact of perceived social stigma on parents with children with autism spectrum disorder: applying the ecological theory model".
Dr. Dao Thi Thu Thuy - Hanoi Capital University presented the report "The role of parents with autism spectrum disorder accompanying their children during adolescence".
Dr. Nguyen Minh Tuan - Ho Chi Minh University of Labor and Social Affairs presented a report on Training human resources to support the recovery of autistic children.

Summing up the scientific workshop “Developing human resources on social work in care and rehabilitation for autistic children”, Dr. Dang Kim Khanh Ly expressed her thanks to all the speakers, researchers, and students who participated in the workshop. In addition to sharing about support models and curriculum for autistic children, the workshop recognized and raised the issue of support for parents and guardians. In addition, awareness of autistic children communication as well as negative stereotypes need to be eliminated, thinking changed and directed towards positivity.
In the coming time, the Faculty of Sociology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities will cooperate with the Department of Social Protection to open certificate training courses and provide specialized support for autistic children, aiming to serve the development of the community and society.
The Faculty of Sociology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, was established in 1991 and is one of the first and largest faculties training in Sociology in the country. The goal is to train human resources with high levels of Sociology expertise and the ability to apply it well in explaining, analyzing and solving social problems, with good moral qualities, strong political will and professional ethics. Students will be thoroughly trained in basic and advanced skills and knowledge in building research skills, teaching and solving social problems, and consulting on the development of social policies to meet the development needs of the country..
