Attending the meeting were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong - Vice Principal of the school, representatives of the leaders of the Departments of Cooperation and Development, Training, Scientific Research Management, Politics and Student Affairs and Head of the Department of Korean Studies.
On the guest side, there was Mr. Joonmo Kang - Vice President of Hoseo University and representatives of faculties and foreign affairs departments of Hoseo University.
At the meeting, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong shared: The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is a key member of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the leading training institution in the country in the fields of social sciences and humanities. The school is proud of its long history and tradition, and was established by President Ho Chi Minh. Following the orientation of a research university, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi aims to be in the top 150 universities in Asia by 2025, in the top 100 universities in the continent by 2035, and on par with advanced universities (in the top 500) in the world.
Up to now, the school has had 17 training units and many research units listed in the top 500 of the QS Asia rankings. The school has a variety of training fields from undergraduate to doctoral levels, from basic sciences such as Literature, Linguistics, History, Philosophy, etc. to applied sciences such as Journalism, International Studies, Psychology, Public Relations, etc. In which, the Department of Korean Studies under the Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU is one of the first units in the country to organize training and research in Korean Studies. The Department of Korean Studies has received much attention and support from government agencies, international organizations, schools and Korean businesses throughout nearly 30 years of operation and development.
With the mission of being a pioneer in training high-quality, highly qualified human resources; researching, creating and disseminating knowledge in the field of social sciences and humanities, the University always attaches importance to the strategic cooperative relationship with Korea. This has been proven through the history of cooperation with funds and universities such as Seoul University, Korea Foundation or KAS Foundation... In addition, USSH-VNU is also the destination of many politicians from Korea. In particular, the University had the opportunity to welcome and work with the President and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Korea to Vietnam.
Mr. Joonmo Nam - Vice President of Hoseo University, expressed his goodwill to continue signing the cooperation agreement between the two schools. Mr. Joonmo Nam shared: Hoseo University is a private university established in 1979, with more than 14,000 students and more than 500 lecturers. Hoseo University is also a comprehensive university, with 8 member units and a total of 60 faculties training in many fields. In particular, Hoseo University is also proud to be the first university in Korea to include education on entrepreneurship and venture capital in the curriculum and the school has special strengths in science and technology.
Mr. Joonmo Nam - Vice President of Hoseo University hopes that the two sides can soon re-sign the cooperation agreement in the future.
In response to Mr. Joonmo Nam’s goodwill, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong affirmed the opportunity for success in future cooperation between the two schools. Combining the strengths of the two schools, social sciences and science and technology, will certainly bring new breakthroughs in the training and scientific research activities of both schools. In particular, USSH – VNU is also the first university in Vietnam to include startups in its curriculum, promising connections and opportunities for academic exchange between the two sides based on existing similar foundations.
Dr. Luu Tuan Anh - Head of Korean Studies Department discussed the connection between the faculty and the department, creating job opportunities for new graduates at Korean companies in Vietnam.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed and reached consensus on many aspects of activities such as cooperation in building curriculum, not only on Korean studies, but also on Chinese and Japanese studies, Public Administration, etc. In addition, as an academic institution with extensive experience in student and faculty exchange, USSH - VNU is also ready to welcome Korean students to study and research in Vietnam, participate in short-term courses, create conditions for cultural exchange and communication between students of the two schools in particular and Vietnam - Korea in general. In the near future, the two sides will review the previous cooperation draft and improve and update it to continue signing a new cooperation memorandum, aiming towards a model of mutual benefit sharing.
University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Hoseo University discussed some opportunities for joint scientific research and international publication.
