Training on professional skills of Academic Advisor: Optimizing support for learners at VNU-USSH

On October 24, 2023, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH) organized a training program on professional skills in Academic Advising for teachers from affiliated faculties/institutes/departments to have the best preparation to serve learners.

Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Thanh Nam - Head of Training Department said: The University of Social Sciences and Humanities always cares and focuses on the needs and rights of learners. With the change and addition of many regulations in the new regulations of VNU related to training, responsibilities and rights of students, organizing information, updating new knowledge and skills is extremely necessary in training and academic advising activities.

The training session not only provided teachers who are academic advisors with the latest information and necessary experiences in the process of supporting students, but also provided a place for lecturers to share and answer questions about academic advising. The role of academic advisors is extremely important in providing information, advice, and support to ensure that students have the most favorable learning conditions and master the training program. Teachers will become a bridge between students and the school, building trust and preventing risks for students.
At the training session, teachers were shared new tools in implementing academic advising and homeroom teachers, updated information on notable changes in the University training regulations and agreed on key tasks in the 2023-2024 school year. VNU-USSH lecturers also had lively discussions and shared experiences in homeroom teaching, and together solved potential and existing problems in training.

Previously, at the Student Affairs Conference for the 2023-2024 school year held on August 25-26, 2023, Principal Hoang Anh Tuan emphasized that the school has placed student affairs as a key task in its activities. This activity has received the consensus and support of the entire school apparatus with a staff of up to 180 people including leaders, lecturers, academic advisors at training units and leaders and staff at functional departments. Moreover, the career guidance, care and support work of VNU-USSH has received the attention and support of VNU leaders and functional departments, and member universities have a lot of experience in this activity.
