- Research purpose: The thesis clarifies the current status of Vietnam - Indonesia cooperation on maritime delimitation from 1978 - 2023. On that basis, analyze the achieved results, forecast prospects and make some policy recommendations for Vietnam.
- Research object: The situation of maritime delimitation cooperation between Vietnam and Indonesia from 1978 to 2023.
- Research methods:
The thesis applies a synthesis of research methods, mainly document research method; synthesis analysis method; comparison method; foreign policy analysis method; statistical method; discourse method; forecasting method; case study method.
- Main results and new contributions of the thesis:
Based on selectively absorbing and developing the achievements of related research works both at home and abroad, with an approach to international relations, the thesis is a new, in-depth and systematic research work on Vietnam - Indonesia cooperation in maritime delimitation, including the following contributions:
Firstly, the thesis has systematized and provided basic knowledge on maritime delimitation in international law and international cooperation practices; contributing to clarifying the diversity and characteristics of the application of international law in maritime delimitation cooperation between two countries, specifically in the case of Vietnam and Indonesia.
Second, identify and analyze the influencing factors and motivations of the parties, clarify the current status of Vietnam - Indonesia cooperation on maritime delimitation from 1978 - 2023; contribute to enriching the Vietnam - Indonesia cooperation relationship, especially in the period of 1978 - 2023.
Third, through analyzing the current status of maritime delimitation cooperation between Vietnam and Indonesia from 1978 to 2023, the thesis draws out the characteristics and lessons learned in maritime delimitation cooperation between the two countries.
Fourth, the thesis forecasts the situation in the East Sea, the prospects for Vietnam - Indonesia cooperation in the coming time and recommends some policies for Vietnam.
Fifth, the thesis contributes to enriching the source of reference materials serving policy making related to cooperation in negotiating maritime delimitation in general from the lessons of Vietnam - Indonesia cooperation on maritime delimitation and research and teaching on international relations in the Southeast Asian region, as well as interdisciplinary research combining international studies, political science and law.
