Ms. Bando Mariko has many years of experience in senior management at research institutes and universities. She has published many research works, most of which are research results on women. A typical example is the book "The Dignity of a Woman" - one of the best-selling books in 2006 and the royalties were used to establish the Bando Mariko Foundation.
Showa Women’s University is a traditional and effective partner of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Over the years, the two universities have exchanged and trained more than 70 interns and undergraduate and graduate students. Participation in research groups and projects on archaeology, heritage and cultural conservation (such as Hoi An – Cu Lao Cham, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Duong Lam Ancient Village, etc.) are also important highlights in the framework of cooperation between the two universities.
Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Principal of the University) sent his thanks to the representative of Showa Women's University when he learned that the University was the first destination in Showa Women's University's foreign affairs trip since the Covid-19 pandemic. Principal Hoang Anh Tuan highly appreciated the cooperation between the two universities in student exchange and training, as well as joint research activities on history, archaeology, heritage and cultural preservation, etc.
Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Hai Linh (Faculty of Oriental Studies) shared valuable practical experiences when participating in heritage and cultural preservation projects with scientists from Showa Women's University, as well as highly appreciated the achievements in cooperation in training students in Japanese Studies and the Faculty of Oriental Studies.
Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Van Thuy (Faculty of History) outlined the outstanding cooperation activities in research, especially in the field of archaeology, in which many projects have the participation of famous researchers from the two schools such as Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Kim, Professor Kikuchi Seiichi, etc.
Ms. Bando Mariko expressed her gratitude for the school receiving student teachers to practice teaching Japanese every year. At the same time, she also shared some information and experiences of Showa Women's University's effective international cooperation with partners in the region and around the world.
Also during the working session, the two sides agreed to promote cooperation, focusing on the following activities:
- Short-term exchange students from Showa Women's University studying Vietnamese and students majoring in Japanese Studies, History, and International Studies from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Students from other majors of the University can also register for short-term exchange if they have a Japanese Language Proficiency Certificate N3, while long-term programs require a certificate of N2.
- The two sides will organize online courses with the participation of lecturers and experts from the two schools.
- Establish mutual credit recognition training programs (first of all, the Japanese Studies bachelor's program) with Showa Women's University.
- Sponsorship of scholarship funds for students and researchers: Showa Women's University is operating the Bando Mariko Fund with the aim of supporting postgraduate students and young researchers to study in Japan for 1 year (has sponsored the University of Queensland, Australia) and plans to support the postgraduate program in Japanese Studies.
- Maintain and expand cooperation activities in two main areas: history - archaeology and cultural preservation. In particular, joint research plans will be established, seminars will be organized and books will be printed at Showa Women's University.
At the end of the meeting, on behalf of the School's Board of Directors, Principal Hoang Anh Tuan once again thanked Ms. Bando Mariko and Showa Women's University for their attention and friendship, and believed that in the coming time, the two sides will have effective and successful cooperation based on the specific directions and contents that the two sides discussed and agreed upon in today's meeting.
