The work of "Repaying gratitude" in general and the work of gratitude of the School Union in particular is a deeply humane activity, both meaningful in sharing and encouraging policy beneficiaries, and educating and enlightening the present and future generations about the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source".

Years have passed. The war has receded into the past. But the losses, pain and remnants of the two resistance wars are still there, still deeply imprinted and weighing heavily on the lives and souls of many Vietnamese people. After the two wars, many families fell into misery, no longer having homes, no longer having loved ones. There are still children who, although not born during the war, still have to endure physical and mental pain. And there are also many veterans who have to endure excruciating pain every time the weather changes.

During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh once said: “War invalids, sick soldiers, families of soldiers and families of martyrs are people who have contributed to the Fatherland and the people. Therefore, it is our duty to be grateful, to love and help them. We should consider it a duty of the people towards wounded and sick soldiers, not a charity.” Absorbing his teachings and demonstrating the morality of “When drinking water, remember its source”, “When eating fruit, remember the person who planted the tree”, for many years, the Party Committee, the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee of the Trade Union and all cadres and civil servants of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have always paid attention to the work of gratitude, caring for wounded soldiers, families of martyrs, families who have contributed to the revolution... through practical and effective actions such as regularly visiting and encouraging wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, families of soldiers, families of martyrs working at the University and directly going to the Nursing Centers for seriously wounded soldiers in Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Phu Tho, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, Thai Binh... to express gratitude, visit and encourage wounded soldiers, relatives of martyrs' families on the occasion of July 27, December 22 and the Lunar New Year.

Along with paying attention to and visiting policy beneficiaries, the School's Trade Union also regularly pays attention to and organizes "Returning to the source" activities for union officials and members to visit historical revolutionary sites of the country in all provinces such as Son La, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri... Thereby, fostering patriotism, the morality of remembering the source and raising political awareness for union members.

Following in the footsteps of their fathers and brothers in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, the generation of cadres and civil servants of the School today is always proud and deeply grateful for that great sacrifice. Pride is expressed through gratitude to the heroic martyrs, wounded soldiers, families with meritorious services to the revolution and through the career of training and nurturing people who are both red and dedicated to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland today and tomorrow.

The work of "Repaying gratitude" in general and the work of gratitude of the School Union in particular is a deeply humane activity, both meaningful in sharing and encouraging policy beneficiaries and deeply educational for each union member.

On the occasion of the 66th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, on July 27, the Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities organized a delegation of officials to visit and present gifts to two War Invalids Nursing Centers, Liem Can and Duy Tien (Ha Nam province).

The delegation of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was surprised and moved when they were welcomed by a group of seriously wounded soldiers in green military uniforms, with medals and badges pinned to their chests, sitting in straight rows on wheelchairs. The scene of the wheelchairs being skillfully and expertly controlled by the soldiers, slowly running on the small path in the Center to enter the hall gave us an indescribable feeling - something both heroic and solemn, and evoking so much sympathy. It was the image of soldiers, no matter what the circumstances, always in a steady, disciplined, strong and energetic state of mind.

Mr. Nguyen Sinh Hung - Director of Duy Tien War Invalids Nursing Center said that the Center was established in 1957. At one time, the Center cared for nearly 500 war invalids, coming from many provinces from the North to the South, who were war invalids in the two resistance wars against France and the US. Currently, the Center is caring for 60 war invalids. Most of the war invalids at the Center have to use wheelchairs. Many war invalids were infected with toxic chemicals and are no longer able to have children. There are seriously injured war invalids with disabilities of up to 97%, facing many difficulties in normal life.

The precious thing is that although living in conditions that are not materially adequate, the staff and wounded soldiers of the Nursing Center are very united, loving, and sharing with each other. The doctors and nurses take care of the wounded soldiers wholeheartedly and emotionally as if they were their own relatives. The Center is a family, a second home for the soldiers who have suffered many disadvantages and sufferings. There are girls who have loved and married many wounded soldiers. There are families of wounded soldiers with 3 or 4 generations living at the Center and are exemplary cultural families.

Showing gratitude is one of the annual activities of the Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. But every year, once again meeting and expressing gratitude to the heroic sons of the Fatherland, our hearts still ache before their pain with admiration for those who are “disabled but not useless” – those who are struggling day and night with their injuries but still firmly believe in the Party and are loyal to the country.
