Golden Mic 2019 First Prize Ngoc Linh: Happiness when overcoming yourself

More confident with Golden Mic

It is hard to imagine that the talkative girl who won the first prize of Golden Mic, the girl full of energy and actively participating in Youth Union and Association activities, has a special ability to make people feel drawn to her every smile, but was once commented by Mr. Tran Hong Linh, Chairman of Sol Club as "shy". Because, before Golden Mic 2019, Ngoc Linh had participated in many competitions. Linh still remembers the advice of the judges: you have to know who you are. At first, Ngoc Linh was very vague: she had not yet formed her own style, she was not confident in her own abilities. Linh was confused about what she was good at, what she was suitable for. Every time you are assigned a job, you are always worried, wondering if you can do it or if you accept it, can you do it well.

Talking about the biggest thing she gained after the competition, Linh affirmed: Golden Mic helped her know how to overcome herself. “After participating in Golden Mic, when I was standing here, I understood myself a lot more. I discovered that I am also confident and can be flexible in all situations. Before, whatever was given to me, I would accept it all, then worry about whether I could do it or not. But now it is not like that anymore. When I am given a job, I will consider and think about whether I can do it or not. If I can do it, I will accept it, if I can't, I will refuse.”

Perhaps to truly discover and hone your abilities, Linh needs to experience more, but Mic Vang is the first door to help you gradually find the answer to who you are and what kind of person you want to become.

Strive to shine

In the semi-final round, Ngoc Linh was drawn to compete in the number 1 position with Tuan Anh (K60 Psychology) with the topic: Building a Team building program (leading up to hundreds of people to participate in a program). This was the most difficult topic in the round and Linh had never had experience leading this type of program before.

“Receiving the topic of leading an indoor Team building, Linh was quite worried and sometimes very discouraged. There were times when Linh was tired in class, but after school she still stayed at school to practice with her fellow leader. Looking at Linh's talent and efforts, we always believed that she could do it” -Nguyen Quoc Anh (K62 Institute of Journalism and Communication) - Linh's close friend shared.

Recalling his experience in the double lap, Pham Tuan Anh shared:“During the Hung Kings Commemoration Day holiday, the two brothers decided not to return to their hometown but to stay and practice. The whole school was deserted, the security guard was also on holiday, we had to park our cars far away and walk to school. From E’s yard, then to H’s yard, then to G’s yard… At noon, we sat at Circle K and had a quick meal before continuing to practice. When the exam day was near, the script was finalized, and after the consultant analyzed it, the two brothers realized that they had gone in the wrong direction. We decided to destroy the old script, sat together from 7am to 6pm, and then finished writing a new script. The whole day, the two brothers were tense, couldn’t even swallow when eating lunch, and only then did we allow ourselves to go home to rest.”

Team building is a challenge but also a great opportunity for Linh. Overcoming the initial difficulties, with her talent and efforts, Linh quickly caught up and grasped the way to lead Team building. Ngoc Linh's performance in the semi-final round was highly appreciated by the judges. Mr. Nguyen Khanh - the team's advisor commented that he was very impressed by Linh's transformation. The only couple in the leading pair round to make it into the Top 5 is a worthy result for the efforts of Ngoc Linh and Tuan Anh.

Family is everything

In the final round, choose a box containing a photo of your family with the same theme."Where are you from?"Ngoc Linh left an impression on the audience with the saying:"The starting point and destination of every individual is family".

What Linh always appreciates is that:“People often say that family is one of the most important things for each individual. But for me, family is everything.”Her 10-year-old brother is the motivation that motivates Linh to do her best for Mic Vang:“In my small family, my younger brother is the one who gives me the motivation to try. I once said, “I compete in many competitions but never win first place.” Therefore, I want to win first place even more to make my younger brother proud. My mother is truly a friend. No matter what I do, she will always support me. If I am wrong, I will realize it, if I am right, she will be happy. My father is the one who guides me but respects my freedom to choose. He often says, “That’s just my advice, the decision is yours.” Thanks to that, I know that I have to be responsible for every decision I make.”

When receiving her family photo, Linh was quite surprised. The previous contestants talked about their own position, their careers, their beauty... so Linh wanted to spend her part talking about the place that gave her the best things - her family. The first words Linh said were about her parents. Her first steps were supported by her parents. Until now, Ngoc Linh still feels happy to be in her parents' arms. No matter what she does, Linh always thinks about her family first and according to her, everyone strives to do anything in life because they want to make their family happy. Her parents gave Linh enough space for her to be independent, mature, and become the confident and mature girl she is today.

Dream of becoming a TV editor

The 2019 Golden Mic Champion is the first milestone on Linh's journey to conquer her dream of becoming a TV Editor. Since grade 4, Linh thought she would study block C in middle school, and study specialized literature in high school. By grade 10, Linh had decided to become a journalism student.

This dream originated from an incident in Linh's family: A traffic accident occurred, the perpetrator fled. Someone provided information that they saw her father as the one who caused the accident. Some time later, the police investigated and verified the truth, clearing her father's name, but that still haunted Linh and her family. That incident urged Linh to become a journalist so that she could become an investigator and speak up for the truth.

Linh said:“I did a lot of research. The two choices that I was hesitating about at that time were between the Academy of Journalism and Propaganda and the Faculty of Journalism and Communication (now the Institute of Journalism and Communication) of my school. In the end, I chose the Faculty of Journalism and Communication with the desire to be trained in both broad background knowledge about various types of journalism and in-depth training in the specific major that I loved.”.

Ngoc Linh doesn't want to simply be an MC, standing on stage, hosting events, she wants to experience all the work behind the scenes: writing scripts, and producing news articles with everyone.

Golden Mic 2019 has ended, but Ngoc Linh's journey to her dream of becoming a TV Editor continues. The Golden Mic 2019 champion will be a recharging stop to help Linh go faster on the path to conquering her dream.
