Congratulations to Associate Professor, People's Teacher Nguyen Quoc Hung on his 80th birthday

Many generations of colleagues, friends and students of the Faculty of History and Faculty of Oriental Studies (University of Social Sciences and Humanities) were present and joined in the celebration of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quoc Hung's 80th birthday. Many memories were shared, many feelings were sent, expressing gratitude, respect and affection for one of the veteran teachers who has contributed a lot to the development of the University.

Associate Professor, People's Teacher Nguyen Quoc Hung and his wife

Associate Professor Nguyen Quoc Hung was born in 1936 into an intellectual family in Hanoi. In 1961, he was sent to study at Lenin Pedagogical University in Moscow, majoring in History. In 1964, according to the State's decision, he was one of the students majoring in social sciences in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe who returned to Vietnam and continued studying at the Faculty of History, Hanoi National University. He was a student of the first course of the World History major (1965-1966). In 1966, after graduating, he was retained at the Faculty of History, Hanoi National University, in charge of teaching the course of Modern World History and topics on imperialism. In 1993, he, together with Professor Phan Huy Le and Professor Le Quang Thiem, participated in the Executive Committee to prepare for the establishment of the Faculty of Oriental Studies. When the Faculty of Oriental Studies was officially established in 1995, he moved to work at the Faculty, taking on the position of Deputy Head of the Faculty and Head of the Department of Japanese Studies, contributing to the development of the fledgling field of Japanese Studies in Vietnam.

As an expert in world history, Associate Professor Nguyen Quoc Hung has published many works of fundamental significance on modern world history, history of international relations, history of the Soviet Union (Russia) and history of Japan. Associate Professor, People's Teacher Nguyen Quoc Hung and Professor, People's Teacher Vu Duong Ninh

Associate Professor, People's Teacher Nguyen Quoc Hung is also a good manager, having held many important positions and responsibilities during difficult times of the Faculty and the School. He has held the positions of Acting Head and Vice Head of the Faculty of History; Vice Head of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, the first Head of the Department of Japanese Studies (Faculty of Oriental Studies). He is also the one who established and developed cooperative relationships between the University of General Sciences, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Faculty of Oriental Studies with external agencies; focusing on building a team of successor staff.

Expressing gratitude for his contributions to the research and training career of the School, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Party Committee Secretary, Vice Principal of the School) said: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quoc Hung is a leading expert on world history, especially the history of modern international relations. He has many important works contributing to the development of the Faculty and the School. Together with teachers of the same generation, he has contributed to making the name of the School as a leading university in Vietnam. His training works and research products have contributed to shaping the position and reputation of the School.

Professor, People's Teacher Vu Duong Ninh congratulates his colleague

Prof. People's Teacher Vu Duong Ninh (Chairman of the Association of Former Teachers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) sent Assoc. Prof. People's Teacher Nguyen Quoc Hung his best wishes for health, happiness and longevity. Prof. Vu Duong Ninh shared memories of the friendship, comradeship and close colleagues that the two veteran teachers had for each other for 50 years, associated with the ups and downs of the Faculty of History and the University. Those were memories of researching, writing books together, and encouraging each other to overcome difficulties in their circumstances. Even after retirement, the two veteran teachers still regularly exchanged and met, not only discussing professional matters but also sharing stories of everyday life.

Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Van Quan (Head of History Department) presented flowers to congratulate his teacher.

As a close student of Mr. Hung, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Van Quan (Head of the History Department) acknowledged: Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Hung was associated with the History Department from 1966 to 1995. In the main research field of modern world history, he made many remarkable and impressive contributions in the research, dissemination and dissemination of knowledge about world history. In terms of teaching, he was an exemplary teacher, knowledgeable in knowledge and good at pedagogical skills. It was Mr. Hung's interesting and engaging lectures in the classroom that helped students forget the hunger and hardship of the past. It was his closeness, friendliness and dedication to his profession that made his image forever remain in the thoughts and feelings of generations of students.

On behalf of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Dr. Luu Tuan Anh (Head of the Faculty) sent Associate Professor, People's Teacher Nguyen Quoc Hung his best wishes for health and deep gratitude for his contributions in laying the foundation for the development of the Faculty of Oriental Studies and the Department of Japanese Studies.

Associate Professor Dr. Phan Hai Linh (Head of the Department of Japanese Studies) said that she was impressed by the confidence and elegance of Mr. Hung in professional exchanges with foreign experts. The principles that she and Mr. Hung learned from Associate Professor, People's Teacher Nguyen Quoc Hung are: professional confidence, broad background knowledge and lessons on the personality of a scientist. He will always be a shining example for generations of cadres to look up to in order to improve themselves.

Receiving the affection of colleagues and students, Associate Professor, People's Teacher Nguyen Quoc Hung was moved to say: I am lucky and honored to study and work at the University of General Sciences and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. From the time I officially joined the staff in 1955 until my retirement in 2011, I have been attached to the school and the lecture hall for more than 50 years. I am grateful for the help and encouragement of colleagues, friends, and students during difficult times in life. I also shared that in recent years, although I have had some health problems, I still wish to contribute more and longer to my research and teaching career and to continue to accompany the development of the Faculty, the University, and the younger generation.
