In late September, while working at the Organization and Inspection Department of Ha Tinh Provincial Youth Union, Le Thi Nguyet, 22 years old, received notice that she was the valedictorian of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
In addition to her excellent academic performance of 3.91/4, participating in many union activities and scientific research, the girl from Ha Tinh received an invitation to stay at the school to work. Wanting to contribute to her hometown, Nguyet decided to stay in Ha Tinh.

Two times valedictorian
Four years ago, Nguyet enrolled in the Social Work major, Faculty of Sociology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities with the desire to experience, learn and contribute to the community. The girl from Ha Tinh scored 28.5 points in the C00 group, becoming the valedictorian of the major.
Right from the first days of university, Nguyet studied hard and focused. The female student learned from the experiences of her seniors in the specialized knowledge section.
In the general knowledge section, most subjects have essay test format, Nguyet concluded that getting high scores is correct and sufficient. Especially in subjects with a large amount of knowledge such as History of World Civilization, General Logic, Marxist-Leninist Philosophy, students need to research and invest carefully. To make studying less difficult and more effective, Nguyet listens to lectures in class, notes down the main ideas as concisely and easily as possible.
When she got home, Nguyet reread the textbook and checked to see if there were any missing ideas or mistakes in her notes and immediately corrected them. Nguyet used the Pomodoro “tomato” study method.
For subjects with many contents and segments, Nguyet will compile documents and make an outline for each section. Then she proceeds to divide the contents into smaller parts and study them in a rolling manner.
According to the Pomodoro method, Nguyet will focus on studying each content for 30 minutes, then rest (listen to music or do yoga) for about 10 minutes, then continue studying the other parts.
This method helps Nguyet make the most of her time, helping her access a lot of knowledge in a short period of time without feeling tired or stressed. “When we divide the content into smaller parts to learn, it will form more logical thinking and higher application,” the valedictorian shared.
When doing the test, Nguyet tried to write clearly by using frequent line breaks, presenting coherently, using many practical examples to prove, and making the test more in-depth.
Get 10 points in graduation thesis
In addition to her excellent academic achievements, Nguyet has also won many high awards in scientific research activities. The valedictorian has two research papers at the Ministry of Education and Training level. In which, the female student won a third prize with the topic: "Applying personal social work to equip autistic children with self-care skills".
The female student also won third prize in the 2019 City-level "Student Scientific Research - Euréka" award organized by the Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City.
Nguyet holds the positions of Secretary of the Youth Union, Vice President of the K62 Social Work Class, Executive Committee Member of the Sociology Faculty Youth Union, member of the WEPASS Learning Support and Scientific Research Board (under the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities); volunteer of the Humanitarian Blood Team, Hanoi City Youth Blood Donation Campaign Association.
Thanks to her efforts in studying and union activities, Nguyet achieved the title of "5 Good Students at the Central level" in 2020, "5 Good Students at the Hanoi National University level" in 2020 and 2021.

To maintain her academic achievements, research and participation in association activities, Nguyet expressed that there were times when she felt pressured and stressed. The valedictorian tried to arrange to participate in extracurricular activities on weekends to have time for studying and research. She shared that there were times when she had to stay up late at night because of many things, but she gradually got used to it.
In December 2020, she scored 10 points in her graduation thesis: "Application of individual psychological counseling in social work to support sexually abused children". With this topic, Nguyet spent more than 6 months researching the practice and reality. Nguyet completed the training program in 3.5 years (1 semester ahead of schedule).
As the homeroom teacher, Dr. Mai Tuyet Hanh, Department of Sociology commented that Nguyet is a student with very good academic achievements, arguably the highest in the courses she has ever taught. In addition, Nguyet also actively participates in union activities and scientific research.
Following the activities of her students at the Organizing and Inspection Department of Ha Tinh Provincial Youth Union, the female lecturer realized that Nguyet has applied her professional knowledge and promoted the strengths of the Social Work industry into her work.
