Discuss solutions to improve the quality of teaching, research and professional management

The Science and Training Council for the 2009-2014 term of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held its third meeting on the morning of January 22, 2011, chaired by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Rector of the University.The members of the council listened to and discussed important contents related to the development orientation of the University in the coming time. Specifically, there were 3 reports: 1. Building and promoting the effectiveness of research groups at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities presented by Dr. Hoang Van Luan, Head of the Department of Scientific Research Management. 2. Solutions for building and developing a number of majors/specializations to reach international standards presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Quyet and Dr. Tran Ngoc Lieu. 3. Some solutions for training a team of lecturers to reach international standards presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Xuan Khang, Head of the Department of Organization and Personnel. The reports clearly stated the immediate and long-term solutions to develop, enhance the competitiveness and reputation of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, making the University a research university, ranking in the top 200 universities in the region. Regarding the building and development of the University's strong Research Group, Dr. Hoang Van Luan proposed that in the first quarter of 2011, the School will consolidate and register Research Groups with specific information such as: name of Research Group, name of Research Group Leader and members, main research directions (with scientific resumes of the group leader and members, along with minutes of the Research Group meeting). In the second quarter, the School President will review and issue regulations and standards for the operation of Research Groups, review and decide to establish Research Groups. From June 2011, Research Groups will propose research tasks for 2012, and it is expected that by the end of December 2011, a preliminary review of 01 year of promoting the establishment of Research Groups at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will be conducted. Regarding the improvement of training quality, the representative of the Department of Training and Postgraduate Training has proposed that the School continue to select, build and develop a number of majors/specializations that reach international standards. Specifically, at the undergraduate level, the majors are Clinical Psychology and Southeast Asian Studies, at the postgraduate level, the majors are Modern Vietnamese History, Tourism and Hotel Management, Public and Business Management, Science and Technology Management, and International Studies. It is known that currently, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has built and is implementing 3 training programs that meet international standards, including the undergraduate program in Linguistics, the master's program in Vietnamese History, and the doctoral program in Ancient and Medieval Vietnamese History. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Xuan Khang presented the draft criteria for lecturers and professional managers who meet international standards of VNU and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and outlined a number of specific solutions to promote the standardization of lecturers, planning and developing a team of leading scientific staff, improving foreign language proficiency for lecturers, and fostering leadership and management skills for professional managers. In the second part of the meeting, the council listened to and discussed the Report on the Project to establish the Faculty of Political Science, presented by Prof. Dr. Phung Huu Phu - Head of the Department. The enthusiastic comments at the conference by Prof. Nguyen Kim Dinh, Prof. Dinh Van Duc, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Quoc Hung, Prof. Dr. Le Van Quan, Assoc. Prof. Pham Xanh and Prof. Ha Minh Duc once again affirmed the importance of improving the quality of training, research, and especially the quality of the teaching, research and professional management staff at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. At the end of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh summarized the main contents of the conference, and emphasized the key tasks in 2011 and the following years to turn the University of Social Sciences and Humanities into a prestigious research university in the region. On the occasion of the New Year of the Cat 2011, on behalf of the Party Committee and the School Board, Professor Nguyen Van Khanh wished a Happy New Year and expressed his thanks to the veteran teachers who have made great efforts to build the School over the past years.
