“Please pay attention, the body movements and gestures of the client all provide useful information to help the counselor judge their psychology, in order to have appropriate behavior. If their hands are stretched out, clasped together, it means that the student is stressed, do not rush to advise anything because at that time they cannot hear us. Help them balance and overcome that moment... When the person opposite has a sitting posture leaning towards the counselor, that is when they are very attentive and want to listen..." - that is just one of many interesting shares of Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Minh Duc (Faculty of Psychology) at the training class on counseling skills for lecturers who are CASA collaborators on September 22.

According to Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Minh Duc, the content of the training session was designed to help lecturers grasp some basic counseling skills for students such as: understanding skills, questioning skills, information providing skills, career counseling skills. In addition, lecturers also participated in practicing to improve their counseling skills through real-life situations related to student issues such as: psychology, emotions, career, study, etc. The training session not only helped lecturers gain more useful knowledge but also helped them better understand their responsibilities in the upcoming counseling work. After the training session, many lecturers gave positive feedback. Dr. Nguyen Tuan Cuong (Department of Han Nom) shared: if in the past I consulted and shared experiences with students mainly based on experience, now I realize that using experience alone is not enough, when equipped with additional issues of methods and skills, consulting activities will be much more effective. MSc. Nguyen Anh Thu (Faculty of Management Science) commented that: the training session was very useful because it helped us equip ourselves with basic knowledge of consulting skills, not only in theory but also in practice. Consulting collaborators had the opportunity to test and compare the theory with the actual consulting activities they had done, to see what they had done correctly, to continue to promote and expand, and to immediately correct any limitations and mistakes. The training session also helped learners "harvest" more ideas and experiences related to the activities of collaborators in the coming time. MSc. Nguyen Anh Thu believes that in addition to skills, teachers need to expand and update more information and knowledge about careers and the labor market to be able to give accurate advice. Schools need to standardize learning and research methods for students to create a certain consistency in providing information and advice. MSc. Dinh Viet Hai (Training Department) suggests that it is necessary to clearly identify CASA's collaborators as part-time collaborators. Next, there should be a SWOT analysis for part-time collaborators so that everyone knows the strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and challenges of a part-time collaborator. CASA also needs to continue training collaborators on consulting skills, consulting ethics... so that they are capable of performing their assigned tasks.
