On June 23, 2010, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - attended the conference "Historical lessons in the process of national unification and experiences for Korea" and was one of four scholars presenting papers at this conference.This is an international conference jointly organized by the Peace Foundation (The Peace Foundation, Korea) and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (Germany) in Seoul, Korea. The conference focused on discussing reports from scholars from countries that were divided in history and had successful reunification processes, namely the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Yemen and Vietnam. The presentation by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh was titled: "The process of reunification in Vietnam: History and experience". The presentation outlined the process of reunification in Vietnam in history and focused on analyzing historical lessons from Vietnam. The presentation received attention, discussion opinions and many specific questions from international scholars, especially Korean scholars, in order to draw lessons from the process of reunification for Korea. Commenting on the presentation of Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh, Mr. Pomnyun Sunim - Chairman of the Peace Foundation - said: Each country and each historical situation has its own differences, but the process of unification of Vietnam has clearly left extremely valuable lessons for Korea. Among those lessons, the most important lesson is to respect the aspirations and will of the people.
Previously, on the afternoon of June 22, Prof. Nguyen Van Khanh visited the Peace Foundation headquarters and worked with Director Yoon Yeo-joon. The two sides discussed a number of professional issues related to historical and cultural research and emphasized the possibility of conducting joint research and comparative research on the process of national unification in history. Prof. Nguyen Van Khanh also had meetings on the sidelines of the workshop with representatives of a number of funds, research institutes and international organizations such as the Asia Cultural Exchange Foundation (ACEF), the International Volunteer Organization (JTS) and the Korea Institute for Strategic Studies (KIFS)... to enhance and expand cooperation with international partners.
