Continue to lend students interest-free loans

On January 12, 2010, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) and United Overseas Bank (UOB) signed a memorandum of understanding on implementing the interest-free loan program from UOB's Vietnam Student Support Fund for VNU students to pay tuition fees with a total loan amount of VND 5.5 billion and expected to be disbursed within 3 years.
On January 12, 2010, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) and United Overseas Bank (UOB) signed a memorandum of understanding on implementing the interest-free loan program from UOB's Vietnam Student Support Fund for VNU students to pay tuition fees with a total loan amount of VND 5.5 billion and expected to be disbursed within 3 years.VNU announces to units the first batch of Student Loan Program from UOB Fund to pay tuition fees for Semester II, 2009-2010 school year as follows:

1. Loan program

-Loan purpose: Paying college tuition. -Interest rate: 0%.-.Loan amount: Equal to the tuition fee that the student must pay at the time of the loan. Maximum loan amount: For students studying by year, the loan amount is: 5 months x 240,000 VND/month = 1,200,000 VND; for students studying by credits, the loan amount is equal to the amount payable calculated according to the number of credits registered for that semester; for students studying a double degree or double major, the loan amount is equal to the tuition fee payable in the major with the highest tuition fee. -Lending method: After completing the procedures required by UOB Bank and VNU, the loan amount will be transferred to the account of the training unit - where the student is studying. -Debt payment term: Students must repay the loan within 6 months of graduation and pay it back gradually over a period of 30 months.Payment method: The amount of money students borrow is divided into 30 equal payments. Students can repay the debt before the prescribed deadline if they wish. VNU will notify the units of students who are eligible for the loan. These students must sign a loan contract with UOB Bank at VNU.

2. Selection criteria and subjects

- Have average or better academic results in the first semester of the 2009-2010 school year. - Have good or better training results in the first semester of the 2009-2010 school year. - Have difficult family circumstances. - Actively participate in social activities and scientific research. - Have not received scholarships from any other organizations in the 2009-2010 school year. - Students who have received loans from the Fund this time, if they have the need and maintain their academic results, will continue to be considered for loans in the next times.

3. Loan application documents:

  • Copy of valid ID card (and copy of spouse's ID card if applicable);
  • Copy of valid permanent residence registration (and copy of temporary residence registration if any);
  • Certificate of marital status (if any);
  • Transcripts of the last 2 years with confirmation from the training unit (if any. For first-year students: Photocopy of academic results of grades 11 and 12 from the Academic Record);
  • Transcript of first semester of 2009-2010 school year certified by the training unit;
  • Certificate of awards, titles or achievements (if any);
  • Student CV certified by the training unit (according to the training unit's student CV form);
  • Certificate of family policy, family in difficult circumstances (if any);
  • Application for loan to pay tuition fees (according to form).
In order for VNU and UOB to promptly review and transfer money to pay tuition fees for the second semester of the 2009-2010 school year for students, training units are requested to widely notify their students and compile a list of students and loan application documents to send to VNU (via the Department of Politics and Student Affairs) via letter and email. In addition, students who need to borrow capital and meet the Fund's standards can submit their applications directly to Room 405 - Department of Politics and Student Affairs, VNU Administration Building (144 Xuan Thuy, Cau Giay, Hanoi).
