Attending the program were comrade Vu Duc Dam, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; comrade Le Xuan Tung, former member of the Politburo, former Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee; comrade Dao Trong Thi, member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Culture, Education, Youth and Children; comrade Phung Huu Phu, Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council; comrade Nguyen The Ky, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department; comrade Nguyen Viet Thao, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics; comrade Phung Xuan Nha, alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, Director of VNU; comrade Nguyen Van Khanh, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU.

The ceremony was also attended by many international guests, from the embassies of the United States, Canada, France, Russia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, India,... Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Hanoi; Delegation of the European Union Commission; AEON Group; Association of French-speaking Universities. And especially the presence of 17 delegations from universities in China, France, Korea, Taiwan and Thailand representing more than 200 partners of the University.

After the welcoming performances, Prof. Dr. People's Teacher Nguyen Van Khanh, Principal of the University, delivered the opening speech at the ceremony. The speech marked the milestones that teachers and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have achieved over the past 70 years.

Exactly 70 years ago, on October 10, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh signed Decree No. 45, establishing the Faculty of Letters, the predecessor of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU today. After 70 years of construction and development, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has achieved many great achievements in all fields from training, scientific research to consulting and policy advice for the Party and the State. From this school, many generations of students have become leaders, scientists, managers, and excellent experts in many fields, making important contributions to the cause of building and defending the country.

With 70 years of tradition and 20 years of establishment, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU has been honored to be awarded many noble titles by the State: First-class Labor Medal (1981), First-class Independence Medal (2001), Hero of Labor in the Renovation Period (2005) and Ho Chi Minh Medal (2010).

In the celebration of the 70th anniversary of tradition and 20th anniversary of the establishment of the School, with the results and achievements, the School continued to be awarded the First Class Labor Medal by the Party and State for the second time.

Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Vu Duc Dam expressed his gratitude to generations of teachers, scientists, leaders, managers, and officials of the School, generations who have contributed their efforts and intelligence to develop Vietnamese science, making important contributions to the cause of national liberation, construction and development of the country.

Over the past 70 years, the School has continuously grown and become the country's leader in the fields of social sciences and humanities. From this school, thousands of bachelors, masters, and doctors have been trained, worked, contributed, and sacrificed for the country. Many famous teachers, scientists, socio-political activists, and managers from the school have made important contributions to the people and the country. Many research works by experts and scientists from the School have aroused the tradition of ardent patriotism and heroic fighting spirit, have clarified and enriched the origins and cultural identity of the nation, have provided authentic scientific bases for national territorial sovereignty, have established the position of the country and its relations with countries, regional and international organizations.

The school has made an important contribution to the development of social sciences and humanities in particular, as well as science, education and the cause of national construction and defense. The school's academic level and quality are admired by society and highly appreciated internationally.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized, "Human history has affirmed that the vitality, strength, and future of a nation come not only from its economic potential but also from its culture and people. Social sciences and humanities study and summarize movements, relationships, social structures, and human issues... Therefore, teachers, scientists, and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have the mission of being pioneers in motivating the young generation and the whole society to promote good cultural values, foster patriotism, national pride, fan the flames of aspiration, and determination to join hands to make the country stronger in all aspects."

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam also expressed his confidence and certainty that, with its achievements and 70-year tradition of development, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, will certainly continue to develop strongly, becoming a high-quality research university with an increasingly high position in the regional and world university system.

From University of Literature to University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU

1. Outstanding and consistent throughout the existence and development of the School istradition of patriotism, ready to sacrifice for national independence and freedom, unity, protection of the sacred territorial sovereignty and territorial waters of the fatherland. The first generation of professors of the Faculty of Letters were mostly patriotic intellectuals who, following the call of the country and the inspiration of Uncle Ho, devoted their whole lives to the cause of education and scientific research through two arduous and dangerous wars of national salvation. Following in the footsteps of their fathers and brothers, many cadres and students of the University enthusiastically set out, cutting across Truong Son to save the country, contributing to the liberation of the South and the unification of the country. The dedication and sacrifice of heroic martyrs such as Le Anh Xuan, Chu Cam Phong and many other lecturers and students have built eternal monuments and are the pride of many generations of the University today.

2. Isa great scientific institution of the country, with a lasting tradition, reaching scientific heightshas deeply penetrated the minds and aspirations of generations of teachers and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. It has deeply engraved the academic spirit of the University. It can be said that in every stage of the development of the University, there have emerged works of stature, addressing issues related to national traditions as well as solving problems that have occurred and are occurring in the development process of the country. 3. TTradition of inheritance and continuous connection between generations of teachers and students over the past 70 years. Students and lecturers of the younger generations always diligently study the works of scientists of the previous generations, both inheriting and supplementing scientific arguments to form waves of knowledge that continue and develop continuously. The development of many faculties and departments in the school is a concrete result of the spirit of inheritance, continuous succession, without interruption, creating favorable conditions for the long-term, almost endless scientific journey of the school.

4.Traditional features of international integration:Since its establishment, the School's foreign relations have always been focused on. During the period of Hanoi University, many cooperative relationships were signed with major universities of socialist countries. Nowadays, when the country is in renovation, the School has quickly opened up to contact many partners from France, Germany, the US, Japan, Australia... many schools in Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia and many other continents. Up to now, the number of schools that have signed cooperation documents with our school has increased dramatically. That has created a tradition of international integration, bringing results in many fields of training, research and exchange.

5.Traditional Humanistic Values, Humanistic Identity: 70 years of construction and development have left a deep impression on the human relationship between teachers and students, between generations, between the University and society. Therefore, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities today has gained the trust of society, not only in terms of academic content but also in terms of lifestyle, behavior in communication, and in all relationships of life. It can be affirmed that the Humanistic tradition has created a healthy and pure educational environment and thereby led to successes in promoting traditional national values.
