General introduction

The Center for Seas and Islands is a research center under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, established in 2016. The center has two basic functions: conducting scientific research in multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary directions.

Functions and tasks

1. Scientific research
- Carry out scientific research topics at all levels as required by the State, agencies, organizations, annual reports, domestic and international cooperation programs and projects on seas and islands.
- Conduct research, analysis, assessment, planning, adjustment and forecasting of policies and strategies related to the sea and island sector.
- Focal point for organizing scientific seminars, domestic and international cooperation programs on seas and islands
2. Research and training support services
- The Center provides professional consulting activities related to research, training of experts on seas and islands upon request and cooperation with partners.
- Consulting and supporting experts in the fields of economic development, residents' lives, maritime security and island community development... for domestic and international Government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
- Monitor and evaluate programs and projects related to local and regional development related to the Center's fields of operation.
- Consulting and assisting learners, researchers, managers, etc. with information and knowledge about the sea and islands.
3. Providing and developing scientific publications
- Provide publications directly to facilities,
- Is a training facility, providing practical skills related to marine and island research for learners as well as units in need.
- Develop and transfer island development models to provinces, cities and localities.

In November 2022, in Hoi An City (Quang Nam Province), the Center for Sea and Islands, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), Hanoi University of Culture (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) in collaboration with the Hoi An Heritage Conservation Management Center (People's Committee of Hoi An City, Quang Nam) organized the National Scientific Conference "Hoi An Commercial Port and the South Central Coast Commercial Port System: Potential, position and regional and inter-regional exchanges".
