Besides VNU, Vietnam has 4 other higher education institutions also present in THE Asia Rankings 2022: Ho Chi Minh City National University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ton Duc Thang University and Duy Tan University.
To conduct and publish the 2022 Asian University Rankings, Times Higher Education used a set of criteria including 13 indicators in 5 criteria groups: Teaching (25%), Research (30%), Citations (30%), Income from knowledge and technology transfer (7.5%) and International outlook (7.5%). Thus, out of the total 5 Vietnamese higher education institutions ranked, VNU was rated highest in the Teaching criteria group (learning environment, 22.3 points), while Citations were the strength of Ton Duc Thang University and Duy Tan University. Ho Chi Minh City National University has maintained its strength in Income from knowledge and technology transfer over the years of ranking.
Position and ranking of VNU on THE Asia University Rankings 2022
In 2022, there will be 616 educational institutions in 30 countries/territories in Asia ranked by THE (an increase of 65 educational institutions compared to 2021), of which Vietnam has 5 educational institutions in this ranking (Ton Duc Thang University and Duy Tan University were ranked for the first time after THE changed the way of standardizing ranking indicators).
Ranking results in 2022, the top 7 is still Tsinghua University (China), 2nd is Peking University (China), 3rd is National University of Singapore, 4th is University of Hong Kong... as in the ranking results in 2021. The 8th and 9th positions are the change of position of Seoul National University (from top 9 in 2021 to top 8 in 2022) and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (from top 8 in 2021 to top 9 in 2022). Fudan University - China increased its rank from 11th in 2021 to top 10 in 2022.
Top 10 universities in the Asia University Rankings 2022
In Southeast Asia, Singapore has 2 universities participating in the ranking but both are in the top positions of the rankings, the National University of Singapore is ranked 3rd and Nanyang Technological University is ranked 5th. Thailand continues to have 17 universities in the THE Asia Rankings 2022; Mahidol University is still the top university in Thailand with the 145th position in Asia (130th position in 2021). Malaysia also has 3 more universities ranked this year, bringing the total to 18 universities, of which the University of Malaya is the top university in Malaysia with the 55th position in Asia (49th in 2021). Indonesia has 14 universities ranked this year (up 5 compared to 2021). The Philippines has 2 universities participating in the ranking, of which the University of the Philippines is the top university in the Philippines and is ranked 129th in Asia (compared to 84th position in 2021).
Previously, in April 2022, Times Higher Education (THE) announced the results of the THE Impact Rankings. This is a ranking that takes the pioneering implementation of the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations as a criterion to rank higher education institutions globally. In this ranking, VNU is ranked 601-800 in the world, along with other Vietnamese educational institutions such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ton Duc Thang University, Phenikaa University and 3 new educational institutions participating in the ranking this year: Duy Tan University, FPT University and National Economics University.
Also in April 2022, the education organization Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) announced the results of the rankings of 51 fields in 5 subject groups of 1,543 higher education institutions in the world, with about 14,000 training programs. In this QS World Rankings by Subject 2022 (QS WUR by subject 2022), VNU continues to increase its position in key fields. In addition to 5 fields that continue to be ranked (of which 4/5 fields increased their ranking positions), VNU has 1 new field ranked for the first time, which is Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Engineering - Electrical & Electronic). In the 6 fields ranked by QS in QS WUR by subject 2022 including: Computer Science and Information Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautics and Manufacturing, Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy, Business and Management Sciences and Electrical and Electronic Engineering, VNU has 5/6 fields in the top 500 in the world - especially 3 fields Mathematics; Physics and Astronomy and Business and Management Studies are all ranked No. 1 in Vietnam.
