Wednesday - October 23, 2024 23:16
On October 23, 2024, the Faculty of Information and Library Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH) held the closing ceremony of the training course on Application of bibliometric analysis in analyzing course articles, making an overview, aiming at international publication.
The theme and significance of the course attracted the attention and participation of all staff currently working at the Faculty of Information and Library.
International publication is currently one of the important indicators for ranking universities in the world, affirming academic prestige, demonstrating the contribution of educational and research institutions to the common development of scientific fields on a global scale. Therefore, in recent years, the Board of Directors of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has had strong strategies and policies to support and encourage scientists and lecturers to increase international publication.
Grasping that policy, with a pioneering role in applying modern scientific and technological achievements in teaching and scientific research, the Faculty of Information and Library Science has proactively developed plans, sought experts and successfully organized a training course on Application of bibliometric analysis in international research and publishing for all staff, lecturers and PhD students of the Faculty.
The course is held from July 2 to October 22, 2024 with the participation of two experts: Dr. Pham Hung Hiep, Director of the Institute of Educational Research and Knowledge Transfer - Thanh Do University, Member of the Science and Training Council, University of Education, VNU and Associate Professor Dr. Do Van Hung (Head of the Faculty of Information - Library, VNU-USSH).
Bibliometrics is a quantitative research method based on mathematical and statistical techniques to evaluate the external characteristics of scientific documents and predict current and future trends in specific research fields. By mastering this method, scientists can get an overview of their research field, discover new research trends, connect with academic communities, experts, and research groups around the world, improve their ability to write literature reviews, and support international publications.

The course includes 05 topics with the aim of improving research writing skills using bibliometric methods and document review methods, thereby helping lecturers and PhD students improve the quality of international publications.
The course includes the following topics:
  • Overview of bibliometric methods
  • Reading scientific articles using bibliometric methods
  • Practice with VOSViewer software
  • Read and analyze data
  • Write articles according to international standards
  • Search and verify appropriate international journals for your article
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Do Van Hung (Head of the Faculty of Information and Library), this training course is organized to improve the research capacity and especially the international publishing capacity of the Faculty. With the support of the bibliometric method, the Faculty expects to have at least 03 international articles in group Q3 or higher and 04 domestic articles published after the course. This is a feasible goal if we actively learn and share experiences during the participation process. Hopefully, the course will bring practical results, contributing to enhancing the position of the Faculty in the scientific community in the field of Information Management and Information - Library.

After the training course, lecturers and postgraduates will know how to exploit data in Scopus, Web of Science... master the technique of writing a general research article using the bibliometric method, and use VOSViewer, Bibliometrix, Excel... to analyze, interpret and present data, thereby improving research efficiency. In particular, at the end of the course, each group of students will complete a manuscript using the bibliometric method and submit it to an appropriate international journal.
Sharing after the course, MSc. Dang Tran Long said: “I study information technology, so research methods in the field of social sciences and humanities are not my strengths. However, through this course, my scientific research methods have been improved, many issues are guided by experts very specifically and meticulously, and students are "practically" applied to the topics they are researching and studying. Therefore, we all have results right after the course. Currently, I am submitting 2 international articles and 1 domestic article, the articles are being reviewed. This is a useful course for me, changing the way I approach writing scientific articles, especially articles according to international standards! Personally, I and the lecturers and staff in the Faculty would like to thank the Board of Directors of the Faculty of Information - Library and the School for always accompanying, creating conditions and providing maximum support for the staff to increase international publications. I hope that courses like this will be organized more and more widely. more widely at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities".
