Launching the book series “Time and Witnesses”: A valuable book series depicting the historical and cultural flow of Vietnam’s revolutionary journalism

Towards the 100th anniversary of the birth and development of Vietnam's revolutionary press, to honor the contributions of veteran journalists to the revolutionary press that have become valuable journalism heritages with profound theoretical and practical values, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU and the National Political Publishing House Truth have edited and republished the book series "Time and Witnesses" (Memoirs of Journalists) by Prof. People's Teacher Ha Minh Duc (editor-in-chief) and a group of authors for more than 10 years. The launching ceremony was solemnly held at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU this morning, September 29, 2023.
The meeting to introduce the book series “Time and Witnesses” was chaired by Prof. Dr. Ha Minh Duc - Former first Dean of the Faculty of Journalism, University of General Sciences (now Institute of Journalism and Communication, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU) and Prof. Dr. Ta Ngoc Tan - Permanent Vice President of the Central Theoretical Council. The meeting was honored to welcome Associate Prof. Dr. Vu Trong Lam - Director, Editor-in-Chief of the National Political Publishing House Truth; Journalist Ha Minh Hue - Former Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association and leaders of the functional agencies of the Vietnam Journalists Association; Ms. Le Ai My Linh - Director of the Center for Journalism Culture, Vietnam Journalists Association;
On behalf of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, there were Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Principal of the school; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong - Vice Principal; Dr. Phan Van Kien - Director of the Institute of Journalism and Communication; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Chi Trung - Vice Director along with teachers, students and alumni of the Institute.
The meeting was attended by a group of editorial authors who are experts, researchers, lecturers of the Institute of Journalism and Communication, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, leaders of functional units of the National Political Publishing House Truth and the Vietnam Journalists Association; the presence and congratulations of the families of the late journalist Quang Dam, the late journalist Tran Cong Man, the late journalist Huu Tho, the late journalist Do Phuong, the late journalist Tran Kien, and the late journalist Truong Phuoc.
Among the typical portraits introduced in the book series “Time and Witnesses”, the meeting was honored to welcome journalists who are also teachers, managers, and cultural figures who have made great contributions to the formation and development of the Faculty of Journalism, now the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training - University of Social Sciences and Humanities. They are veteran journalist Thai Duy, former reporter for Cuu Quoc newspaper since 1949, reporter for Giai Phong newspaper in 1964, former reporter for Dai Doan Ket newspaper; journalist Nguyen Hong Vinh, former member of the Party Central Committee, former editor-in-chief of Nhan Dan newspaper, former President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, former Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, former Chairman of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts; journalist Tran Mai Hanh - former member of the Party Central Committee, former General Director of the Voice of Vietnam; journalist Duong Ky Anh, former editor-in-chief of Tien Phong newspaper, etc.

The contributions of many generations of great journalists and scientists

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU shared the honor of the school when welcoming generations of teachers, researchers, and alumni at the meeting to launch a book series with profound scientific and historical value.
According to Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, the Faculty of Journalism of the University of General Sciences, now the Institute of Journalism and Communication - University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, has a very important position, being one of the official journalism training institutions in Vietnam. During the more than 30 years of development of the Institute of Journalism and Communication, the contributions of generations of teachers and scientists have been of great significance. One of the first bricks of the Institute is Prof. People's Teacher Ha Minh Duc - who has contributed his intelligence and efforts to the development of the school over the years, and at the age of 90, the professor is still diligently giving lectures to lecturers and students of VNU-USSH. Principal Hoang Anh Tuan expressed his deep gratitude for the great contributions of Professor, People's Teacher Ha Minh Duc as well as generations of teachers, scientists, and alumni of the school to the cause of training and research in the fields of social sciences and humanities, especially in the field of journalism. At the meeting to launch the book series Time and Witness, colleagues and students were delighted to welcome Professor Ha Minh Duc, who at a rare age is still keen on stories about journalists who have devoted their entire lives to the development of Vietnam's revolutionary journalism. Recalling the 10-year journey with his team of colleagues to record, write, and write memoirs about the portraits of journalists, Professor Ha Minh Duc shared his emotions when the book series was republished and received the precious feelings of many readers. The passion and intelligence of Professor Ha Minh Duc - who devoted his entire life to the career of training and researching social sciences and humanities, for the country's journalism, has been "passed on" to many generations of journalists as well as generations of students at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU. Prof. Dr. Ta Ngoc Tan - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council and also one of Prof. Ha Minh Duc's students, expressed his appreciation for the idea of ​​Prof. People's Teacher Ha Minh Duc when he and his colleagues compiled a book series recording the portraits of journalists - historical witnesses of Vietnam's revolutionary journalism. Prof. Dr. Ta Ngoc Tan emphasized, "This is a very valuable book series, preserving memories over time for many generations of journalists today and tomorrow."
  In his speech at the meeting, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Trong Lam - Director, Editor-in-Chief of the National Political Publishing House Truth emphasized that the vivid and truthful memories and memoirs of great journalists are worthy of being soldiers on the front of writing, recording the important changes and transformations in the revolutionary process of the nation in the 20th century. Through the memoirs of journalists in the book series Time and Witnesses, we can also see the movement in many aspects of journalism, society, literature, etc.
Associate Professor Dr. Vu Trong Lam said that through the reality of journalism, the authors have recounted and drawn many of their journalism experiences in a very rich and diverse way such as: the stance and viewpoint of journalists, the qualities required of journalists, love for the profession and dedication... The memoirs of the previous generation of journalists will be useful lessons and experiences to help in recognizing the past and especially for training the young generation of journalists.
