The book "Regionalism: Theoretical and Practical Issues" is the author's effort after many years of research on politics and international relations to analyze, evaluate in a comprehensive, systematic and updated way regionalism from a theoretical perspective, thereby applying it to the study of some typical cases of regionalism in the world such as the EU and ASEAN. From the experience of these two typical regions, this book also tries to generalize the basic characteristics and different models of regionalism, thereby proposing some recommendations to improve the effectiveness of regional and international integration for Vietnam.
To help readers have a systematic and comprehensive understanding of regionalism, this book begins by studying the research theories on contemporary regionalism in terms of both the development process and the theoretical basis and main arguments. On the basis of providing theories on regionalism, the work will analyze the formation and development process of two specific cases: Southeast Asian regionalism and Western European regionalism. Finally, the book offers some thoughts and suggestions for developing regionalism research and regional integration policy making in Vietnam in the context of current regional fluctuations.
For some reasons, in terms of time, the book only focuses on studying the development of regionalism awareness, some theories on regionalism are being studied and widely used in the world today. In terms of space, the book also only focuses on studying the contents related to the international relations aspect of Southeast Asian and Western European regionalism within the theoretical framework of the above theories. The consideration of the possibility of applying these theories is also limited to the field of international relations. Regarding Vietnam, this book only focuses on analyzing the development process of Vietnam's regional policy since the implementation of Doi Moi (1986), clarifying Vietnam's awareness and policy towards regional integration.
