In the context of innovation in Vietnam, this research focuses on describing, analyzing and explaining urbanization, industrialization and its impacts on the livelihood changes of farming households in the suburban areas of Hanoi. To achieve the research objectives, the author used the sustainable livelihood framework combined with a spatial approach to analyze and explain the process of industrialization and urbanization, especially the revocation of agricultural land use rights and its impacts on the livelihood changes of farmers in the suburban areas of Hanoi.
From the results of in-depth research in two suburban villages of Hanoi as two specific cases, the author has vividly reflected the practical process of urbanization, industrialization and its impacts on changes in farmers' livelihoods, and at the same time analyzed and compared the opportunities and challenges of industrialization and urbanization for the livelihoods and lives of farmers in the research area in particular and in the suburban areas in general.
The theoretical and practical knowledge mentioned above is the basis for the author to exchange some policy suggestions with the hope of contributing to more sustainable livelihoods and lives of farmers whose agricultural land use rights have been revoked for urban and industrial development projects.
