And especially, due to the high demand for human resources, graduates of Oriental Studies always have many opportunities to choose good positions, suitable for their major. This is just some of the information that Associate Professor, Dr. Le Dinh Chinh - Head of the Faculty of Oriental Studies (University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU) shared with us when the 2014 university admission season is approaching.

Regional training

The Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities is responsible for training bachelors in 5 majors: Japanese Studies, Korean Studies, Chinese Studies, Indian Studies and Southeast Asian Studies.

Associate Professor, Dr. Le Dinh Chinh said that students trained at the Faculty of Oriental Studies will have to complete 14 compulsory English credits and 47 specialized foreign language credits appropriate to each student's training direction.

Compared to other training institutions, students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies are not only trained in foreign languages ​​but also have a solid foundation in regional knowledge. Each student trained at the Faculty of Oriental Studies must complete 138 credits divided into 5 training program blocks. These training program blocks are coded from M1 to M5 and include general subjects of the Social Sciences and Humanities block as well as regional knowledge of the major. Specifically:

- Blocks M1 and M2 are general subjects prescribed by VNU for the Social Sciences and Humanities block;

- Block M3 is the basic subjects for the Faculty of Oriental Studies;

- Blocks M4 and M5 are specialized subjects on Oriental studies - providing students with an overview of the Oriental studies area.

“With those 5 knowledge blocks, students graduate with both a general university knowledge foundation and regional knowledge. That is the characteristic of the Faculty of Oriental Studies” – Associate Professor, Dr. Le Dinh Chinh shared.

Modern, updated, and systematic are the main features of the Faculty's training program. Not only does the Faculty have standard curriculum, it also continuously receives support in terms of curriculum and research materials from universities in the region. Talking about the Faculty's teaching staff, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Dinh Chinh affirmed: "They are PhDs and Masters who are former students of the Faculty, trained abroad and then returned to work as lecturers, so they are professionals and have a lot of experience.

Many opportunities to study abroad

Scholarships, study abroad scholarships and overseas internships are the outstanding attractions of the faculty. The Faculty of Oriental Studies is one of the leading faculties in terms of cooperation with prestigious universities in the region and the world. Every year, students of the Faculty receive scholarships from partner schools, embassies or foreign enterprises such as Japan Foundation, Korea Foundation, Toshiba Foundation, etc.

In addition, students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies can participate in exchange programs, study abroad scholarships, and internships in many advanced countries suitable for their training major.In the training program, we design many subjects compatible with the training programs of other countries to create conditions for students to earn points during their exchange study period." - Associate Professor, Dr. Le Dinh Chinh added.

After graduation, students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies can continue to improve their professional qualifications and receive scholarships to study for Master's and Doctoral degrees in countries such as China, Thailand, Japan, Korea, India, Iran, Singapore, etc.

100% employment after graduation

When we wondered about the industry's human resource needs, Associate Professor Dr. Le Dinh Chinh asserted: "For Oriental Studies, it can be said that 'supply cannot meet demand'. According to the latest statistics, 100% of K54 students graduating in 2013 have found jobs.”.

After graduation, students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies have many opportunities to choose from a variety of positions. With foreign language skills and professional knowledge, students of this major can work in Vietnamese state agencies and organizations such as: diplomatic agencies, foreign representative offices, teaching at universities, social science research institutes, press agencies, central and local radio and television stations. In addition, graduates of Oriental Studies can also work at embassies of other countries, international organizations, travel companies, private and foreign enterprises located in Vietnam.
