Professor Ha Minh Duc began his career in education, research and became famous at a very young age. At the age of 26, he had an impressive work:“Nam Cao – excellent realistic writer”,After only a few years, the Master published the book.“Vietnamese Poetry – Forms and Genres”co-written with Professor Bui Van Nguyen, then“Poetry and some issues in modern Vietnamese poetry”.Together with Professor Phan Cu De, he wrote the book“Vietnamese Writers 1945-1975”,raises the fundamental issues of modern Vietnamese literature in a convincing and highly scientific way. Together with teachers Hoang Xuan Nhi, Hoang Nhu Mai, Phan Cu De, Tran Dinh Huou and many other teachers and scientists, Professor Ha Minh Duc has created the name and scientific position of a leading training and research center on Vietnamese literature. His scientific reputation has become a source of pride not only for the Faculty of Literature - Hanoi National University in the past, for the Faculty of Literature, Language, Journalism and Communication of the University of Science and Humanities today, but also a common pride of the teaching, research and literary creation community in our country.

Teaching and researching are closely linked to writing. His two forte genres are memoirs and poetry. To date, he has published 7 collections of poetry and 7 collections of memoirs. The stories, emotions, and memories from life that are close and authentic are highly appreciated by readers and experts.

Not only a talented teacher and scientist, Prof. Ha Minh Duc is also a capable and experienced manager. In the early 1990s, in response to the need to train professional human resources in the field of journalism and communication, Prof. Ha Minh Duc was assigned the responsibility of establishing the Faculty of Journalism of Hanoi National University and became the first Dean of the Faculty. With his mettle, scientific reputation and enthusiasm, he has made great contributions to the work of training staff, building a theoretical system, lecture curriculum, and establishing a development path for a new field of study at the University. Many research works on journalism of lasting value have been painstakingly built by him and the Faculty staff such as:Ho Chi Minh Press, Time and Witness(Memoirs of over 40 journalists during the period of resistance against France and America),History of Vietnamese Journalism (1865-1945), Journalism - Theoretical and practical issues… With the contributions of the Faculty of Journalism under the guidance of the Master, Journalism and Communication has gradually been affirmed in the system of social sciences and humanities, theoretical training combined with practical work, research is closely linked and serves the development of the country.

During more than half a century of working with the Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Journalism (now the Faculty of Literature and the Faculty of Journalism and Communication), even when holding the position of Director of the Institute of Literature, he devoted all his efforts to the task of training, especially training the young generation of lecturers. Professor Ha Minh Duc is a talented teacher and pedagogue. Regardless of his position, he has directly or indirectly taught and contributed to creating many generations of famous students, contributing to many fields of science and social life, some of whom have become top managers and leaders of the country. The title of People's Teacher awarded by the State not only shows the honor of his great contributions and achievements in the field of education and training, but also affirms the qualities and talents of a great teacher.

Since 1995, Prof. Ha Minh Duc has continued to hold the position of Director of the Institute of Literature and Editor-in-Chief of the Literature Magazine. During his eight years as head of a scientific research institute, with the support of the Institute's staff, Prof. Ha Minh Duc has created a new period of development for the country's leading literary research agency. As a prestigious scholar, he has made important contributions to connecting and promoting cooperative relationships between domestic researchers and scientific agencies with international universities, research institutes and scholars. At the same time, he has contributed to introducing the achievements of Vietnamese literary research and creation to the world. These tireless activities have contributed to promoting the development of the country's cultural and artistic fields.

Recognizing and appreciating the outstanding contributions of Professor Ha Minh Duc to the country's training and scientific research, the Party and the State have awarded him many noble awards: the First Class Labor Medal, 02 State Awards in 2000, 2001 and especially the Ho Chi Minh Award in 2012.
