Associate Professor, Meritorious Student Vuong Dinh Quyen is one of the first staff members of the Department of Archival Studies, Faculty of History, former University of General Sciences, now the Department of Archival Studies and Office Management, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU.

In 1968, after graduating from the Faculty of History - Hanoi University, he was retained to work with a number of other staff members to build the Department of Archival Studies at the Faculty of History. Together with pioneers such as: Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Tham, Associate Professor Nguyen Van Ham, he was one of the people who "laid the foundation" for the development of a field of study, a training facility for the first university-level staff of the Archival Studies field in Vietnam.

In 1970, he was appointed Head of the Department of Archival Studies of the Faculty of History and continued to hold this position until 1992. In 1996, the Department of Records and Archives (now the Department of Archival Studies and Office Administration) was established, on the basis of separation from the Department of Archival Studies of the Faculty of History. He continued to hold the position of Party Cell Secretary and Chairman of the Science and Training Council. He also held the position of Party Committee Secretary and Vice Head of the History Faculty for many years. During more than 30 years of association with the Department, the Faculty and the field of study, he devoted all his intelligence and enthusiasm to the cause of training archival staff in Vietnam.

The Board of Directors of the Department of Archival Science and Office Administration congratulates Associate Professor, Meritorious Artist Vuong Dinh Quyen and his wife.

When mentioning Associate Professor Vuong Dinh Quyen, all generations of students of the Faculty of Archival Science and Office Management call him with three words: Leader, Teacher and Scientist. As one of the founders of the Faculty of Archival Science and Office Management from the beginning until now, Associate Professor Vuong Dinh Quyen has devoted and accompanied nearly 50 years of his life to the cause of education, training and development of the Vietnamese archival industry.

Regarding scientific research activities, Associate Professor, Meritorious Artist Vuong Dinh Quyen has many research works on the history of Vietnamese writing, on types of documents, books and papers used in feudal times.

To teach and help students have reference materials, he wrote articles covering most of the issues of document and archive work in feudal times: from institutions to the recruitment of officials to carry out work related to documents and papers; from regulations on communication to the management and use of seals and taboos in documents; from the collection, gathering, preservation to the use of documents in historical transcription... He was also the one who wrote articles deeply analyzing and clarifying the role and contributions of Minh Mang - the emperor who "founded the Nguyen Dynasty's archives" in particular, and the archives of Vietnam in general.

As the person in charge, right from the first years after the establishment of the Department, he organized the compilation and was the editor of some of the first, basic and important textbooks of the field of Archival Studies. The textbooks "Theory and practice of archival work”, “General Text and Archival Studies”, “Theory and methods of clerical work" compiled by teachers and staff of the department is still used by lecturers, students and trainees as the main reference material for current specialized subjects.

It seems that he has never stopped his scientific research work. The articles and publications that he continues to publish after his retirement not only have high scientific value, but also encourage the younger generations to try harder.

Associate Professor Vuong Dinh Quyen's attitude towards his students, regardless of whether they are faculty members or from other units, regardless of age, gender or origin, is the clearest manifestation of a "teacher's personality", a teacher recognized by both the State and students as excellent.

At the celebration of the teacher's birthday, the Department of Archival Science and Office Management also introduced the book "History, Theory, Practice of Archival Science and Office Management" edited by the teacher. The book is a collection of the teacher's typical articles published in a number of specialized journals and scientific conference proceedings.

Reading the articles in this book, one can see that the serious attitude, sharp thinking, and tight arguments based on convincing evidence of a scientist are always the outstanding marks in his research works. Over the past decades, the works of him and his colleagues have not only been textbooks and reference materials for students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities but have also been used in most training institutions in the field of Archival Science and Office Management nationwide.
