Successfully implementing the Resolution of the 25th Party Congress

Towards the 26th Congress of the Party Committee of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (to be held on June 14-15, 2010), ussh.edu.vn reviews the outstanding achievements of the University during the 2006-2010 term.The 25th Party Congress of the School held on August 30, 2006 set the goal: "Improving the comprehensive leadership capacity of the Party Committee, developing the school towards a research university, with capacity and professional quality on par with advanced universities in the region, building a number of majors/specializations that reach international standards, contributing effectively to the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country and the capital". During the past term, despite many difficulties such as changes in the Board of Directors, implementing many new policies in training, lack of facilities..., thanks to the good implementation of the principles of democracy and transparency, promoting the strength of solidarity and unanimity among all staff, civil servants and students, the School has successfully implemented the Resolution of the Party Congress and achieved many outstanding achievements in all aspects of activities.

Political stability and strengthening the unity of the whole school

The Party Committee has performed well the political and ideological leadership of all activities of the school, thereby maintaining political stability and strengthening solidarity and unity in the whole school and the whole Party Committee. The Party Committee has continued to direct the implementation of 6 programs towards standardizing and modernizing the school's activities, organizing and implementing well the campaign "Studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh", integrating the content of the campaign into the professional activities of cadres, party members and students in the whole school.

Many activities to visit historical and revolutionary sites, exchange with former prisoners from imperial prisons in Con Dao, Phu Quoc; display and introduce revolutionary documents and pictures... were organized to help raise political awareness of staff and students. The work of converting from annual training to credit training has been promoted and mobilized by the School so that staff and students initially have the right concepts and determination to carry out this work according to the plan and set goals. Under the direction of the Party Committee, the Trade Union, the Youth Union, the Student Association, and the Veterans Association, cultural and sports activities, volunteer and humanitarian activities have been well organized and mobilized members to perform their assigned tasks well.

Improve organizational structure, improve staff quality

The organization and personnel work in the last term had many positive changes. In 2009 and 2010, the Party Committee led the consolidation of the Board of Directors, leaders of departments, functional offices and some units, in accordance with principles and procedures, quickly, ensuring the stability and development of the school.The Party Committee has directed the establishment of 04 new centers (Center for Research and Consulting on Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minorities, Center for Contemporary Religion Research, Center for Foreign Languages, Center for Policy Consulting and Analysis), reformed and upgraded the management of 01 center and 01 department (Department of Foreign Affairs and International Training Cooperation), established 01 new department (Department of Anthropology) and 01 department (Department of Postgraduate Training), transferred the Department of Foreign Languages ​​to the University of Foreign Languages ​​and the Department of Physical Education to the Center for Physical Education according to the policy of VNU. The work of appointing, transferring and recruiting staff is carried out seriously, in accordance with the process, time and procedures, ensuring transparency, democracy and publicity.Training and staff development, especially training to improve professional qualifications, are always given top priority. The Party Committee directs the Board of Directors to develop a plan for training and developing staff using budget funds and scholarships from foreign sponsors. In recent years, the School has sent 120 staff to study abroad. Currently, the School has 32 PhD students and 4 undergraduate students studying abroad. The number of young lecturers is increasing, accounting for 49.8% of the total number of staff and civil servants in the whole school. The quality and professional capacity of the teaching staff have been trained and improved, ensuring the development and stability of the school's activities.

Creative and effective in training

With great efforts and determination, the School has overcome many difficulties to achieve initial successes in the transition from the year-based training method to credit-based training, becoming one of the leading units of VNU in this work. These initial results have created positive changes in teaching and learning awareness, breathing in a new learning atmosphere towards dynamism, creativity and efficiency in staff and students, promoting modernization and international integration in the school's training.The school has promptly developed and adjusted regulations, guidelines, and training management procedures to suit credit-based training. 1,144 course outlines, 41 textbooks, 15 reference books, 106 lectures and undergraduate course guidance documents and 672 postgraduate course outlines/topics have been compiled and converted to suit credit-based training. To meet social needs, the school continues to adjust the structure of training professions and training forms, expanding many new training majors. The scale of postgraduate training has increased sharply compared to 2006 (from 25 master's training majors to 30 majors and 16 doctoral training majors to 29 majors). In addition, the school's Board of Directors has been directing the development of a project to open a number of majors/specializations that meet international standards such as Linguistics, Modern and Contemporary Vietnamese History, and PUF programs...Diversifying training cooperation forms with domestic and foreign partners is an outstanding achievement in the training work of the School, aiming to improve training quality and expand learning opportunities for learners. In the past 4 years, the School has implemented 3+1, 2+2 cooperation forms with a number of Chinese and Korean universities; organized dual training in English - Tourism with the University of Foreign Languages, VNU Hanoi; implemented training cooperation and technology transfer with Toulouse Le Minrraie University (France) in the fields of Organizational Management and Tourism Management.

Pioneer in training quality assessment

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is also a pioneer in implementing the Ministry of Education and Training's policy of collecting feedback from learners on lecturers' teaching activities to improve the quality of university education. Since the 2007-2008 school year, the University has implemented an assessment of the quality of lectures throughout the University. The assessment report on the high-quality training program in Linguistics was approved by VNU in a meeting in January 2010. The University plans to conduct an assessment of its training programs according to the standards of the Association of Southeast Asian Universities (AUN) in 2012.

Expanding the scale and improving the quality of scientific research

The whole school has deployed and organized the implementation of the scientific research strategy for the period 2001 - 2010; proactively developed major research topics and projects, improved the quality and effectiveness of research, linked research with serving social needs, especially the school's training needs and expanded international cooperation, contributing to enhancing the position of the school.Scientific research has successfully carried out its tasks and strategic directions. The scale of research topics and funding sources have increased significantly compared to the period before 2006. Research products have actively served the needs of society, contributing to the training mission of the school. Most of the monographs and new subject textbooks have been developed from the results of research topics at all levels.

Many conferences, especially international conferences, have been successfully organized and highly appreciated by domestic and foreign scientists, contributing to affirming the position of the school in scientific research and international cooperation. The number of research topics in the past 5 years has increased compared to the previous period. In particular, from 2007 to present, the school has been implementing 06 state-level topics.Organizing scientific research guidance for students really contributes to linking training with research and improving training quality. Scientific activities of students increase in quantity and quality. Many scientific research projects of students have won high awards from the Ministry of Education and Training, the School has been recognized for many years as a unit with outstanding achievements in scientific research of students.

Outstanding foreign economic unit in 2009

The school's foreign affairs and international relations have contributed to training and improving the professional qualifications of staff, supplementing the school's financial resources; at the same time, promoting the brand, enhancing the reputation and position of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities at home and abroad. In the past four years, the school has signed and re-signed 83 cooperation documents with 80 universities and research institutes; organized joint training programs for 2+2 and 3+1 bachelor's degrees with a number of universities in China and 3 joint training programs for master's degrees with the University of Toulouse II in France. Currently, there are nearly 300 students in international joint training programs studying at the school (there have been 2,636 foreign students studying at the school in the past 4 years).

The school was honored to receive the title of Outstanding Foreign Affairs Unit in 2009. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Party Secretary, Principal of the School - was awarded the title of Outstanding Foreign Affairs Economic Activist in 2009. The award was jointly organized and voted by the National Committee for International Economic Cooperation, VTV, Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations...

Is a typical strong and clean Party Committee of VNU

During the 2006-2010 term, the Party Committee focused on directing the enhancement of the leadership role of the Party cell, innovating the content and methods of Party cell activities, focusing on promoting the development of new Party members, especially among students, and performing well the inspection and supervision work. From 2007 to 2009, the Party Committee continuously achieved the title of a strong and clean Party Committee; in 2008 and 2009, it achieved the title of a typical strong and clean Party Committee. 100% of Party cells achieved the title of a task-fulfilling Party cell, of which 85% achieved the title of a strong and clean Party cell. 100% of Party members in the entire Party Committee were assessed as qualified Party members, fulfilling their tasks, of which 15% fulfilled their tasks excellently and 75% fulfilled their tasks well. Party development work exceeded the planned target by 44% (231 new Party members, of which 157 Party members were students).
