On May 21, 2015, representatives of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities led by Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu - Head of the Department of Politics and Student Affairs visited and encouraged Chu Duc Liem at his home in Co Dien A village, Tu Hiep commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi.

The delegation also included Ms. Tran Thien Thanh - Vice Head of the History Department, Mr. Bui Huu Tien - Vice Director of the Museum of Anthropology, Ms. Nguyen Mai Lan - President of the School's Student Association, along with teachers and friends of Liem in the department and school.

Chu Duc Liem is a student of the Faculty of History, high-quality program of the QH-2011-X course. In 2008, while studying in grade 10, Liem was unlucky to have bone cancer and had to have one leg amputated. Despite his poor health and difficult family circumstances, Chu Duc Liem demonstrated an optimistic spirit, overcame his illness to continue his studies, and excellently passed the entrance exam to the Faculty of History, University of Social Sciences and Humanities in 2011. At the end of his first year, Liem achieved the title of Excellent Student with an average score of 3.27. He was awarded a certificate of merit by the Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for his achievements in overcoming difficulties and studying well. He received the Le Van Huu scholarship from the Faculty of History and the History Development Fund scholarship from the Vietnam Historical Science Association in 2012, and was honored as the Outstanding Young Face of the School in 2012. While undergoing treatment and studying, his academic performance at the School is still very good (the total credits he has completed so far are Excellent with an average score of 3.55). In addition, Chu Duc Liem is also an active member of the School's Stone Flower Club and tirelessly participates in charity activities to bring smiles to local and Hanoi cancer patients.

At the end of 2012, the cancer relapsed, and Liem had to temporarily stop studying to receive treatment and then return to school in September 2013. But then, he had to stop studying again to return to the hospital for further treatment because his condition was getting worse. Up to now, although his illness is getting worse, with his strong will to live and his wonderful optimism, Liem has overcome even the worst prognosis of the doctor to continue living and receiving the love and support of his family, teachers and friends.

Chu Duc Liem is a shining example of the students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in terms of willpower, resilience in the face of the harshness of fate to study and contribute to the community. Although he has stopped studying since 2013, the student community of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities always considers Chu Duc Liem a special and dear member and always looks forward to his return to school with his teachers and friends.

To promptly encourage, share and give strength to Chu Duc Liem and his family in this difficult time, the School, the Faculty of History, the Youth Union, and the Student Association presented certificates of merit and many gifts from the collective and individual teachers to him and his family. The visit of the School representative to Liem's ​​family took place in an emotional atmosphere. There were not only many words of encouragement and greetings but also tears.

Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu shared: “Liem is a student with extremely difficult circumstances, but he has persevered and achieved many good academic and training achievements. He chose to become a student of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and until now, we love him and are proud of what he has done.”.

Uncle Chu Van Nghi, Liem's ​​father, emotionally confided: "The family does not know what to say but to thank and accept the love that the teachers and the school have given to Liem.”.

Chu Duc Liem also shared with his teachers and friends that he wishes he had the health to complete his studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the school that has helped him cultivate more love for this life. He is happy to receive the attention and love of everyone.
