Green Torch Award – lighting up the passion for scientific research of Hanoi Humanities youth

Creativity, enthusiasm and confidence are the compliments that the Professional Council and lecturers gave to 05 groups of authors of 05 excellent reports that surpassed more than 90 reports from students of the whole school to be present at the Student Scientific Research Conference "Green Torch" for the 2023-2024 school year held on May 9, 2024.
The event not only attracted the participation of a large number of students, union members, and authors of 05 reports, but also received the attention and encouragement of Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Thanh Nam (Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the School Council), Dr. Ta Thi Bich Ngoc (Secretary of the School Youth Union), and teachers and lecturers in the school.

The “Green Torch” Student Scientific Research Award was first presented in the 2009-2010 student scientific research season under the name “Youth Union Award”. From the 2014-2015 research season, the award was officially named “Green Torch”. Up to now, the Award has attracted an increasing number of students in the school, not only helping students to perform well in their studies and scientific research tasks, but also honoring scientific research works of students with practical content for students, applicable to the work of the Union - Association and youth movements, encouraging and nurturing the passion for scientific research.
Speaking at the Conference, on behalf of the University's Board of Directors, Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Thanh Nam affirmed: “Scientific research is a common activity in universities, but with the strengths, position and goal of becoming a research university of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, scientific research is even more focused and emphasized. The "Green Torch" Student Scientific Research Award chaired by the Youth Union not only has an important meaning in contributing to the successful implementation of the University's general strategy on science and technology, but also creates a useful playground for students, while affirming the uniqueness and high professionalism in the activities of the Hanoi Humanities Youth Union. In the 2023-2024 school year, nearly 100 students have registered to participate in scientific research, which reflects the great attraction of this activity, especially the quality of the topics reported directly at today's Conference shows the spirit of serious, meticulous scientific research and creativity of Humanities students". Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Bui Thanh Nam also expressed his hope that through these activities, students will initially practice thinking and methods in scientific research, while at the same time nurturing their passion for discovering cutting-edge knowledge in their favorite fields.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thanh Nam congratulated the success of the Conference and emphasized that the Party Committee and the School Board always accompany, support and create favorable conditions for the scientific research activities of students.
According to Dr. Ta Thi Bich Ngoc (Secretary of the Youth Union), immediately after launching, within just 02 months (from November to December 2023), the Organizing Committee received 94 applications from union members and students of 17 LCĐs and LCHs and then 32 completed reports.

Dr. Bui Thi Bich Ngoc shared more about the meaning of the Green Torch Award and expressed her deep gratitude for the attention and facilitation of the Party Committee, the Board of Directors and the enthusiastic professional guidance of the teachers in the school.

After the preliminary round with the participation of teachers and lecturers from many different majors, the Organizing Committee selected 10 reports with the best quality to participate in the We Choice round (most favorite topics). Based on the voting results from students as well as the evaluation of the Professional Council, 05 excellent reports were selected by the Organizing Committee to report at the Conference.

2. Luu Thu Hang - K66 Hotel Management with the topic: Impact of green marketing on customer satisfaction and return in 4-5 star hotels in Hanoi
3. Le Mai Huyen (Group Leader), Nguyen Mai Hong, Tran Thu Van - K66 Journalism with the topic: Impact of social network TikTok on the need for cosmetic surgery of young people aged 16-28 in Hanoi in the period 2022-2023
4. Nguyen Vu Thao Linh (Group Leader), Nguyen Le Hoang Linh, Nguyen Quang Huy - K67 CLC Management Science with the topic: Enhancing the role of the Youth Union in promoting student research activities at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU
5. Khuat Thi Ha Thu (Group Leader), Tran Quang Phong, Vu Ngoc Huong Tra, Nguyen Thi Phuong Dung - K67 CLC Psychology with the topic: The relationship between trust in friendship and friendship quality in students
The confident presentation of the authors and author groups received high appreciation from the judges and delegates, and also received comments, exchanges, and open, frank debates on many scientific issues (theoretical basis, research methods, reliability of survey statistics, etc.) and some points that the author groups need to improve to improve the quality of the work.

Although it is the first research work of 2nd and 3rd year students, the way of choosing the topic, applying the research method and some of the results achieved (providing theoretical models or proposing solutions with practical applications, etc.) have shown the meticulous and serious scientific work, independence and creativity in studying and researching, as well as the passion for exploring knowledge of Humanities students.
At the end of the Conference, the Organizing Committee congratulated and honored 05 topics of authors and groups of authors with the following award categories:
Outstanding presentation category: belongs to student Trinh Thi Ngoc Anh
Outstanding application value category: belongs to student Luu Thu Hang
Outstanding topic selection category: Le Mai Huyen (Group leader), Nguyen Mai Hong, Tran Thu Van
Outstanding solution category: Nguyen Vu Thao Linh (Team leader), Nguyen Le Hoang Linh, Nguyen Quang Huy
Outstanding research method category: Khuat Thi Ha Thu (Group leader), Tran Quang Phong, Vu Ngoc Huong Tra, Nguyen Thi Phuong Dung
In addition, the Organizing Committee also awarded the Union Branch with the most topics participating in the Green Torch Student Scientific Research Award for the 2023-2024 school year to the Union Branch of the Faculty of Psychology, and the Most Favorite Topic Award to the group of Nguyen Thu Uyen, Hoang Thi Kim Phuong, Hoang Thu Ha, Vu Thi Anh Tu (K66 Psychology CLC).
All individuals and groups of authors of the official award reports at today's Conference will be honored by the School's Board of Directors at the School-level Student Scientific Research Conference held on May 14.
The award from the Organizing Committee is a recognition of the efforts, attempts, and serious research results of the students. But above all, through this activity, the students have received enthusiastic, meticulous, and dedicated guidance and companionship from the teachers and instructors so that they can start doing scientific research. And from those instructions, encouragements, and motivations, the students will grow up a lot, not only in knowledge, but also in thinking and scientific working methods. Today's research results are just the first step, but they are an extremely valuable practice for their future scientific research journey. And also from this conference, many interesting scientific ideas and problems are suggested for the students to continue pursuing and learning more deeply.
A season of Green Torch Student Scientific Research organized by the School's Youth Union has successfully concluded, affirming the firm belief that the Award will be increasingly loved, trusted and widely participated by Hanoi Humanities students, contributing to glorifying the tradition and achievements in scientific research of the School.
Also at the Conference, the Organizing Committee awarded prizes to the newspapers that made it into the TOP 10 best reports.
