Celebrating 30 years of tradition of the Institute of Journalism and Media Training: Reunion Day!

On November 7, the Institute of Journalism and Communication held a ceremony to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Institute's tradition. This was not only a happy day for the Institute but also an emotional reunion day for many generations of students and trainees of Journalism and Public Relations from all courses and systems to return to their teachers and old school.

 

 

The ceremony was also attended by managers in the field of press and media, veteran journalists such as: journalist Ha Dang, former Head of the Central Ideology and Culture Department (now the Central Propaganda Department), former Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Editor-in-Chief of Communist Magazine; journalist Nguyen Hong Vinh, former member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Permanent Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Chairman of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Arts; journalist Ho Quang Loi, Permanent Deputy President of the Vietnam Journalists Association; journalist Le Quoc Minh - Deputy General Director of Vietnam News Agency; journalist Le Ngoc Quang - Deputy General Director of Vietnam Television...

 

In 1990, the Faculty of Journalism was established, marking an important milestone for the first time, journalism training and research was placed in a school that was not part of the Party school system, and moreover, it was also the leading university in training and research in social sciences and humanities in Vietnam - Hanoi University of Science (now the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi). Right from the first days of its establishment, the Faculty of Journalism gathered a team of dedicated and enthusiastic staff and lecturers, many of whom were great scientists with names and prestige such as Prof. Ha Minh Duc, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duong Xuan Son, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Huong, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Xuan Ha, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Quang Hao, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Huong, Assoc. In the leading training and research environment of social sciences and humanities in Vietnam, journalism students are exposed to and are imparted with the most basic, fundamental and profound knowledge of social sciences and humanities from leading professors in these fields such as Prof. Phung Huu Phu, Prof. Vu Duong Ninh, Prof. Vu Minh Giang, Prof. Do Quang Hung, Prof. Nguyen Thien Giap, Prof. Dinh Van Duc, etc. - important and valuable knowledge foundations that help future journalists write many articles that touch people's hearts with cultural depth and comprehensive social understanding.

Continuing the career of previous generations, the teaching staff of the Institute of Journalism and Communication today are mostly young, dynamic and enthusiastic staff, 100% of the lecturers have a master's degree or higher, of which 35% of the Institute's teaching staff are Associate Professors, more than 60% have a PhD. Many staff have received professional training in the Soviet Union, England, Australia, Korea, Russia... and are prestigious experts in the academic and research fields of journalism and communication.

In addition to the regular staff, the Institute of Journalism and Communication also has more than 50 part-time lecturers and invited lecturers who are leading experts in journalism, journalism management, and many prestigious and experienced journalists, including Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen The Ky, General Director of Voice of Vietnam and Dr. Ta Bich Loan, Head of VTV3 of Vietnam Television, who are part-time heads of departments.

From this school, more than 10,000 bachelors, masters, and doctors of journalism have spread to all parts of the country, working and contributing to the hustle and bustle of news, creating a seamless flow in society, connecting information between the Party, the Government and the people, connecting businesses with the public. Many alumni are journalists who are always on the front line in difficult times of storms, floods, and natural disasters; many journalists are leading writers in the fight against corruption and negativity; hundreds of alumni have received the National Press Award, and the national press awards of all sectors and levels... Many alumni have held and are holding key positions in the country's press and media system.

In 2018, on the basis of integrating the Faculty of Journalism and Communication and the Center for Journalism and Communication, the Institute of Journalism and Communication was established, marking a milestone as a pioneer unit in the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, developing from a Faculty to an Institute, preparing the premise for university autonomy in the future.

Up to now, the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training is the pioneer in the school in training activities. Admissions to the Journalism, CLC Journalism and Public Relations majors of the Institute are always in the top 3 majors with the most students registered and for many consecutive years, the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training is the leader of the whole school in postgraduate admissions, in which the Institute has 5 postgraduate classes in the localities.

Over the past 5 years, the Institute of Journalism and Communication has carried out 3 state-level projects on "Traditional popular culture in the context of market economy and globalization", "Research, evaluate the impact of media, propose development solutions, improve the quality of media work, serve the sustainable development of the Northwest", "Mass media for human development based on human rights", and most recently, the key national task onResearch on building a National Geographic Collection Media Collection.

In 2020, celebrating its 30th anniversary, the Institute of Journalism and Communication was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training, and the Emulation Flag of the leading unit at the Hanoi National University level.
