Potential cooperation between USSH and Chongqing University

On May 6, 2014, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Vice Principal of the School received and worked with the delegation of Chongqing University (China) led by Professor Trieu Thanh Binh - Director of the Institute of International Relations.

Also receiving the delegation were Associate Professor Dr. Doan Duc Phuong - Head of the Faculty of Literature, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong - Head of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, Dr. Nguyen Tho Duc - Head of the Department of Chinese Studies (Faculty of Oriental Studies), and MSc. Tran Diep Thanh - Deputy Head of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Training Cooperation.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed the potential for cooperation between the two schools in three main areas: training, scientific research and international cooperation.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Kim emphasized: The University of Social Sciences and Humanities attaches special importance to international cooperation, expanding international cooperation is of great significance to the development of the University. Up to now, the University has signed 193 cooperation documents with international universities. Every year, the University organizes about 30 scientific conferences. Every year, about 1/3 of the total number of staff are sent abroad for academic exchanges and welcome nearly 400 international scholars for scientific exchanges. The University has good cooperative relations with many Chinese universities. Hopefully, through this visit, the two universities will have the opportunity to cooperate in many fields. Many current training fields of Chongqing University correspond to the training fields currently available at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Therefore, the two universities have great potential in establishing official and long-term cooperative relations.

Prof. Trieu Thanh Binh said: The delegation's visit to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities this time aims to establish and expand official cooperative relations. He hopes that in the coming time, the two schools will soon develop cooperative relations in the following areas: exchange of lecturers and students; coordination in conducting joint scientific research; organization of scientific seminars, etc.

Chongqing University is a comprehensive university founded in 1929. Currently, the University has 31 faculties training in the fields of: Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering, Information Technology. Of which, there are 13 students belonging to the School of Social Sciences such as: Law Academy, Academy of Public Administration, Academy of Journalism and Communication, Academy of Cinema, Academy of Foreign Literature. Chongqing University has a total of 45,000 students and 5,800 staff. The total number of foreign students in 2013 was 1,285 students, of which 138 were Vietnamese students.
