On June 3, 2013, during his visit and work with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Klaus Larres (University of North Carolina – USA) gave a presentation to the staff and students of the University on the topic “President Barack Obama and US foreign policy in the new era”. Attending the talk were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Vice Rector of the University), along with staff, graduate students and students of the faculties of International Studies, Political Science, and the Institute of Vietnamese Studies.
The presentation includes four main contents: The two secretaries of state under President Barack Obama, H. Clinton and J. Kerry; characteristics of President Obama's foreign policy; President Obama with America's old allies in Europe; key issues in President Obama's foreign policy.
As a professor of History and International Relations, Professor Klaus Larres delivered a very interesting presentation, providing the audience with extremely interesting knowledge about the United States under President Obama - the first black president in American history. Professor Klaus Larres presented the main arguments and resolved those arguments with very detailed evidence. To avoid making the presentation boring, the Professor also interacted with the audience by asking questions related to the topic being discussed, suggesting ideas and explaining the content: why did President Obama choose Secretary of State H. Clinton and J. Kerry? Will former Secretary of State H. Clinton run for election in 2017? Obama's key policies towards Iran, Syria, North Korea, the Arab Spring? The relationship between the United States and China and Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam?...
After finishing the presentation, the speaker received many comments and questions from the school's staff and students about the topic: President Obama and the United States in the field of foreign policy planning, evaluating the successes and comparing President Obama's foreign policy with previous US presidents...
At the end of the presentation, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh, on behalf of the Board of Directors, staff, students and pupils of the school, presented gifts and expressed his deep gratitude to Professor Klaus Larres and his colleagues for taking the time to visit and work with the school, creating opportunities for staff, students and pupils to access useful knowledge and advanced teaching methods. Professor Klaus Larres was also very pleased to be welcomed by the school's leaders and to present to staff, students and pupils. The professor also expressed his desire to cooperate and was willing to help and exchange with Vietnamese scholars and students on related topics by sending his personal email address and website.
