- The Department of Religious Studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has a long history of training and research since 1976 at the Faculty of Philosophy.
- In 2016, the Department of Religious Studies was officially established under VNU-USSH, which is one of the first and only places (to date) to fully train 3 levels of Bachelor, Master and Doctorate in Religious Studies in Vietnam. In 2023, the Bachelor of Religious Studies program received a quality accreditation certificate from the Ministry of Education and Training.
- Vietnam is a multi-religious country, over 95% of the population follows a religion or belief. Therefore, the Party and State attach special importance to religious work, and the demand for human resources with in-depth knowledge of religious studies is increasing.
