“The Asia-Pacific region is a miniature world in the 21st century. If you want to understand the world, come to the Asia-Pacific region.” That is the message that the textbook “International Relations in the Asia-Pacific Region” by Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh, recently published by the Hanoi National University Publishing House, wants to convey to readers.

International Relations in the Asia-Pacific Region

On the basis of applying international relations theories to analyze the actual situation, the main purpose of the textbook is to help readers understand systematically, fundamentally, and comprehensively the nature of international relations in the Asia-Pacific region, the most dynamic region in the world today.

The textbook is primarily intended to serve the learning needs of undergraduates, graduate students, postgraduates and teaching and research activities of staff of the Faculty of International Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU. In addition, the textbook is also a useful reference material for students majoring in International Relations, History, Political Science, Oriental Studies, etc. and those interested in international politics.

The course content is structured into 8 chapters:

Chapter 1: This chapter focuses on introducing methodological and methodological issues such as the concept of region, how to define a region and some basic theories applied to the study of the Asia-Pacific region.

Chapters 2, 3, 4 and 5: With a national approach as the main subject, the content of these chapters focuses on analyzing the Asia-Pacific policies of four major powers: the United States, China, Japan and the Russian Federation.

Chapters 6 and 7: Taking multilateral and regional approaches as the main focus, these two chapters focus on analyzing the challenges, opportunities and prospects of security in the Asia-Pacific region.

Chapter 8: Analysis of Vietnam's Asia-Pacific policy as a country in the region with an increasingly important position and role.

The textbook “International Relations in the Asia-Pacific Region” is the result of more than 10 years of teaching and research by Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Quang Minh, with the help and contributions of generations of lecturers and students of the Faculty of International Studies since the Faculty of International Studies was established in 1995. On the occasion of the Faculty’s 20th anniversary, the author would like to dedicate this work to generations of teachers and students of the Faculty of International Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
