The Bachelor of Political Science program of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has received a quality accreditation certificate from the ASEAN University Network (AUN-QA).
Speaking with reporters of the Vietnam Education Electronic Magazine, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Chieu - Head of the Faculty of Political Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi said: Political science is a social science related to governance systems, political ideology and analysis of activities in the political field.
Accordingly, students majoring in Political Science will be equipped with both theoretical and practical knowledge related to many fields in the field of Social Sciences such as Public Policy, Law, International Relations, Communications, etc. On that basis, students will develop the ability to apply theories, methods and professional skills of Political Science in related fields and activities.
Currently in Vietnam, many people still understand Political Science according to narrow definitions with the two words "politics", while the content of the subject is very broad, the role of the subject in society is also very large, and has the ability to complement many positions and professions.

Agreeing with the above viewpoint, Master Vu Thi Huyen Trang - lecturer of Political Theory, Thu Do University said: Most people still understand and visualize Political Science as a field of study that focuses on studying political theory and practice in a dry and boring way. Studying this field of study will only be suitable for those who have the need and orientation to work in the political system.
However, in reality, the field of Political Science is very diverse and the knowledge of the subject is interdisciplinary and can be applied in many different positions and jobs.
Political Science knowledge has the ability to complement many fields and professions.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Chieu, the notion that graduates must work in the right field of study is only a criterion to evaluate the output quality of all fields.
The notion that graduates of Political Science can “only” work in the “political field” has limited the ability to promote the role of the field of study in society. In fact, career opportunities for Political Science graduates are very open with a variety of job positions.
Mr. Chieu said that in the educational trend of the 4.0 industrial era, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Faculty's Board of Directors have set the requirement to always innovate and improve the training program in an interdisciplinary direction, increasing practicality to equip learners with specialized, multidisciplinary and multi-field knowledge, comprehensive professional skills to meet the needs of the labor market and the mission and responsibility of basic science majors in the Vietnamese university education system.
Accordingly, in addition to being able to take on specific job positions, a Bachelor of Political Science can also perform well the functions of consulting, advising, and policy criticism at the agencies that make guidelines and policies of the Party and the State; socio-political organizations, socio-professional organizations, international organizations, and economic organizations in the public and private sectors.

Cannot not train because of difficult language
In fact, many students are still "afraid" of the specific name of the major, but according to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Chieu, we cannot be afraid of the difficult name and not dare to train because each major has different principles, purposes, responsibilities, and political and social missions.
According to the development of modern society, the knowledge of Political Science will become increasingly important and valuable for many job positions and professions. Specifically, in the field of journalism and communication, if only using the professional skills of reporters without a basic and fundamental knowledge system on political issues, characteristics of political systems, and relationships between subjects in the political system, it will be very difficult to work and complete the job well. The more developed the society is, the more professions and fields need to use political science human resources and political science knowledge such as: Policy consulting, Startup support, Law, Journalism and communication, Foreign affairs, International cooperation, etc.
Therefore, training high-quality human resources in Political Science is not only to meet practical needs but also the mission and national responsibility of the leading training institution in basic sciences such as the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
To fulfill that mission, according to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Chieu, the Political Science Department needs to focus on the quality of training instead of chasing the number of students. Currently, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Political Science Department focuses on recruiting enough students according to the set target. Specifically, for each course, the number is 60 students/course, just enough for the school to focus on training, caring for and supporting students in the best way.
Innovation in training methods to adapt to reality
In order for society to continue to have a comprehensive view of the field of Political Science, according to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Chieu, it is necessary to constantly innovate training content and methods to be able to transform theory and politics into policies, promoting interdisciplinary application to adapt and suit social changes.
Specifically, in terms of specialized orientation, currently in the Political Science training program of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, Hanoi, the "professional application" is being promoted through identifying 6 main training directions including: Party building and state administration, Vietnamese politics, Ho Chi Minh studies, Policy communication, Comparative politics, Global politics.
Focus on enhancing practical courses for students to develop professional skills and apply theory to practice. Every year, the school always organizes and supports students through international exchange activities with professors, experts and students at major universities around the world.
