Deputy Director Le Ba Lam informed about LIC's recent efforts in digitizing the learning materials system and reforming administrative procedures, improving the quality of service to readers, diversifying communication methods, and reaching out to staff, lecturers, students, and trainees at VNU.
Accordingly, by early 2020, LIC had completed digitizing more than 50,000 documents, helping readers easily access them online via the web and app systems. These documents have been classified according to the needs and purposes of each unit down to each specific field of study and subject. In addition to the volume of documents and information serving specialized research and teaching, LIC also has a large amount of updated documents on the topic of scientific research methods, improving soft skills... for lecturers and students. In particular, as soon as the High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities was established, LIC's library staff quickly built a system of documents serving the teaching, learning and reference work for teachers and students of the School.
Regarding LIC's endogenous digital resources, USSH's teachers and students have contributed a large amount of 32,000 theses, dissertations, 12 scientific journals, 5,000 conference proceedings, scientific articles, etc. This resource is considered important for improving academic quality and serving the construction of a research university. The number of accesses to USSH's endogenous digital resources is also recorded as the largest.
However, there is still a limitation that the number of USSH lecturers and students accessing and using LIC's learning resources is still quite modest compared to the potential of the team. In order to serve the policy of building a research university, innovating teaching methods towards applying IT, building the library as the heart and place to spread scientific knowledge in a university, LIC proposes to USSH stronger cooperation and communication solutions so that staff and students have the opportunity to widely access learning resources at LIC.
Specifically, LIC proposed that the School share learning resources on social sciences and humanities for preservation and digitization; regularly provide USSH's internal resources to the library; and have solutions to help the library reach each staff and student to spread information. The two units also need to coordinate to promote communication about this learning resource through Facebook, email, website channels, etc.
In particular, to serve the upcoming enrollment of new students, LIC is committed to simplifying administrative procedures, waiving the requirement for student ID cards and immediately providing digital learning material access accounts for first-year students right after enrollment - Deputy Director Le Ba Lam emphasized.
Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan highly appreciated the efforts of the VNU Information and Library Center in recent years to build a large and rich source of learning materials to meet the research and training activities of VNU. This is a "gold mine" that needs to be exploited and used more effectively by the staff and students of VNU.
USSH also committed to fully cooperate with LIC in building a digital scientific repository. And “it is necessary to form a culture of sharing information resources among units in VNU, thereby encouraging reading culture and spreading academic knowledge in the VNU community”. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities will strengthen regular and focused communication to staff and students about this policy.
The school also expressed its joy at LIC's attention and maximum facilitation for new students of USSH. "We are committed to creating connections between the two units to serve the research, training and common tasks of VNU. Close coordination is needed on the basis of exploiting the strengths of each side; one side is to serve more and better and the other side is to exploit learning resources more effectively, thereby improving the quality of teaching and learning to meet new requirements" - Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan spoke at the meeting.
