Perspectives of Korean Language and Korean Studies Students on Korean Economic and Social Issues

This is the content discussed and exchanged at the scientific seminar with the participation of 3 schools: University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Ha Long University and Thai Nguyen University of Science, held on April 5, 2024.
 
The seminar attracted the participation of lecturers and students of Korean Studies from 3 universities: University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Ha Long University and Thai Nguyen University of Science.
The seminar is part of the activities of the Korean Studies Seed Project (Korean Studies in the Northern Vietnam: Sharing and Development) sponsored by the Academy of Korean Studies (AKS), attracting the participation of many lecturers and students in the field.Korean Studiesof 3 universities.
 
The reports presented by students at the seminar explored hot social issues in Korea.
At the seminar, speakers and students discussed Korean social issues from a multi-dimensional perspective, such as: "Learning about the green model at Seoul National University and experiences for Ha Long University" by student Tran Thi Thu Hien (Ha Long University); "Physical violence among Korean high school students - The case of the movie The Glory" by student Nguyen Nhu Phuc (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi); "The reality of social stratification and inequality in Korea reflected in the movie "Parasite" by student Dang Thi Bich Dao (Thai Nguyen University of Science); "Korea - a society that values ​​education and the consequences seen from the documentary "The Betrayal of Learning" by a group of students Ha Van Duc and Nguyen Thi Hoang Lan (Thai Nguyen University of Science).
The reports have explored hot social issues in Korea such as school violence, social inequality, the problem of academic bias... In particular, the reports have many things in common in the way of researching the issue through analyzing a specific Korean film, because film is one of the mirrors that reflects and visualizes social issues in a profound and vivid way, especially Korean films highly emphasize the element of realism.
From another perspective, from discussions on the Korean economy, the reports presented at the seminar also proposed many lessons for Vietnam, with the topics: "Self-reliance spirit for the Saemaul movement of Korea and lessons for Vietnam" by the group of students Nguyen Thi Hien, Vu Hoang Yen, Nguyen Hoang Thien Vu (Ha Long University); "Korean investment in Thai Nguyen province in the period of 2020-2023" by the group of students Vu Thi Thuy Ngoc, Duong Thi Ninh (Thai Nguyen University of Science); "Learning about smart tourism development in Seoul (2016-2019)" by student Pham Minh Son (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi).
The reports are both up-to-date and highly applicable with recommendations and suggestions for Vietnam. The students approached the issue from multiple perspectives and made great efforts in searching, synthesizing and analyzing reference data.

In his closing remarks at the seminar, Dr. Luu Tuan Anh - Head of the Department of Korean Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi affirmed: “With the meaning of sharing and development, the seminar program has contributed to helping students accumulate more experience to develop themselves, is a valuable opportunity for students to practice scientific research, accumulate knowledge, skills, and experience in Korean studies research.”.
The scientific seminar for students with the theme “Socio-economic issues of Korea from the perspective of students majoring in Korean language and Korean studies” is one of the key activities of the AKS Seed Project to encourage the spirit of scientific research among students and nurture talented young scientists.
This is the second year that the AKS Korean Studies Seeds Project has been implemented in Vietnam. In the coming time, the AKS Korean Studies Seeds Project will continue to organize seminars and Korean cultural experiences in the northern provinces of Vietnam.
