Journal of Japanese Studies - Hanoi: Bringing research of VNU-USSH lecturers and students closer to the world

Several research topics of lecturers and students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH) have been presented to the review board of the Journal of Japanese Studies - Hanoi and are expected to be published in 2024.
Recently, within the framework of the cooperation of the Japan Studies Program between the University of Tokyo and Vietnam National University, Hanoi (Zensho-UT Japan Studies Program in VNU Hanoi, JSPH), scientists from the Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities participated in organizing the activities of the Journal of Japanese Studies - Hanoi.
The Japan Studies Forum is a place where students, graduate students, and young researchers present their research results and discuss with leading professors from the University of Tokyo and other universities in Japan. In November 2023, at the third reporting session of the forum, 04 graduate students of the 01st batchPhD program in Japanese Studiesof the University of Social Sciences and Humanities participated in presenting their research directions.
Topics include: "International marriage between Vietnam and Japan - Analysis of the case of Vietnamese wives and Japanese husbands" by PhD student Pham Quynh Lien; "Supporting families with children with autism spectrum disorder in Japan - experience for Vietnam" by PhD student Tran Viet Ha; "Japan's specific skills system - prospects and challenges" by PhD student Nguyen Thi Thanh Thao; "Images of children in Chinese poetry and Haikai poetry in the late Edo period" by PhD student Do Thi Mai.
In parallel with the Japan Studies Forum, the two sides agreed to cooperate in editing and publishing the Japan Studies Proceedings - Hanoi with publication code ISSN 2758-4453 (online journal) in the publishing list of the University of Tokyo. This is a research journal that applies the independent peer-review system with the hope that it will become a high-quality journal, publishing the latest research results of Japanese studies researchers from Vietnam, Japan and the world. The journal is expected to publish its first issue in 2024.
Started in November 2011, the Japan Studies Support Program aims to promote the development of Japanese studies in Vietnam and is one of the activities of “Supporting Asian Talent Training” of Zensho Corporation for the University of Tokyo. The program is in its third 5-year phase at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU.
The program has actively supported the teaching and learning of lecturers, students and postgraduate students of the Department of Japanese Studies and achieved some specific results in equipping facilities, receiving postgraduate students to study abroad at the University of Tokyo, organizing intensive courses on Japan, organizing short-term internships at the University of Tokyo, inviting Vietnamese lecturers to conduct research at the University of Tokyo, organizing library management seminars, organizing the Japan - Vietnam Studies seminar "Hanoi Rondo", organizing reading hours on ethnology... Since 2022, the program has begun implementing phase 3, focusing on improving the capacity of students, postgraduate students and young researchers through the Japan Studies Forum.
The program has brought many opportunities for study and research for staff, lecturers and students of VNU-USSH in general and Japanese Studies in particular.
