“Effort” is another name for luck.
Như Hương “fell in love” with Journalism, a bold turn from the Pedagogy direction that her family expected. In the first days of entering university, she was filled with confusion and anxiety. But after only three years of study, Như Hương has asserted herself as a girl full of energy, enthusiasm and constant efforts in all areas, from participating in movement activities to achieving excellent academic achievements.
In the 2023-2024 school year, Nhu Huong achieved many outstanding academic achievements, receiving the school's scholarship for two consecutive semesters. Notably, last November, Nhu Huong was also the only female student of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to receive a Posco scholarship worth 1,000 USD. Having won one of the most valuable scholarships, Nhu Huong shared: “I decided to apply for the POSCO scholarship not only to challenge myself but also to expand my opportunities to learn and experience new things. This is an international scholarship so the application requirements are very strict, so I spent days and months preparing diligently: going to school during the day, and writing my scholarship application until 2-3 am at night. The number of times I rewrote my application is probably countless. During the nearly two months of applying for the scholarship, I put my whole heart into it, from preparing my application to participating in the interview round.”
Not only that, Nhu Huong also won the First Prize in the School-level Student Scientific Research Conference for the 2023-2024 school year with a topic that the school invested in as a key research topic. The journey of scientific research is full of challenges and difficulties, requiring perseverance and constant effort. Nhu Huong shared: “I started participating in scientific research from my first year of university. On this journey, in addition to acquiring knowledge, I also accumulated a lot of experience and skills through each challenge. Looking back on that process, I feel that I have matured and become much stronger.”
Currently, in addition to studying Journalism, Nhu Huong is also studying a dual degree in Law at the University of Law, Vietnam National University, Hanoi since her first year. Studying two majors at the same time causes a lot of pressure due to the amount of homework and subjects, but Nhu Huong still maintains a balance and achieves many excellent results. In Nhu Huong's opinion, effort is not to make others admire and praise her, but to make herself proud to look back on the past journey, to have the courage to put aside the first drafts of her life and strive for the good opportunities ahead.
Homeland, family and loved ones are the greatest source of motivation
Nhu Huong was born and raised in Mong Cai city, Quang Ninh province. In a family with a solid foundation, she shared: “For me, my hometown Quang Ninh is my origin, my family and relatives are my support. This is a great source of motivation for me to constantly strive, overcome many failures to move forward.”
When she entered university and left her family, Nhu Huong began an independent life in the capital. This was a challenging period for her, as she had to get used to a new environment and unforeseen difficulties. Recalling the early days, Nhu Huong could not hide her feelings of strangeness and anxiety: “Honestly, the first two years in Hanoi, I had a very stressful and difficult time, when I had to go through both physical and mental trauma. Sometimes, I doubted my own abilities, when I had difficulty achieving any plan and did not know where to start.”
However, it was the love and encouragement from family, teachers and friends that gave Như Hương the strength to overcome all difficulties. She realized that every challenge and difficulty is an opportunity for her to grow and become more confident. Như Hương confided: “I once read that life is like a U-shape and being at the bottom means that I have gone halfway and the only way left is up. This has also been true for me. Over the past year, I have had many experiences with countless emotions, mixed with surprises. Looking back, those years of silently trying, I believe that it is proof of perseverance and constant effort.”
For Nhu Huong, her hometown, family and relatives are the greatest source of encouragement and strength to help her continue on the path of pursuing her dream. It is the good values she inherited that have helped her overcome all difficulties, assert herself and confidently walk on the path of her dream.
