(SVVN) - Tran Mai Phuong (Secretary of the History Class 67, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU) has nurtured a dream of studying History since childhood. Persistently pursuing this path, the female Gen Z student has achieved many proud achievements.
Since her elementary school days, Mai Phuong has had a passion for history. “I always wanted to learn about the past, and my mother often bought me history books,” she excitedly said.
Mai Phuong is fascinated by the story of our ancestors' resistance against foreign invaders, historical figures associated with the resistance wars to protect the country such as Hai Ba Trung, Ba Trieu, Ngo Quyen, Ly Thuong Kiet, Tran Hung Dao, Nguyen Hue... In addition, the 2k4 girl is also passionate about learning about famous cultural figures such as Doan Thi Diem, Nguyen Du, Nguyen Trai...
The motto that Mai Phuong likes best is: "Our people must know our history, to understand the origin of Vietnam."
As she grew up, Mai Phuong enthusiastically researched and read more books about Vietnamese history, world history and famous people. “Each page, each word took me on a journey to discover vivid pieces of the past, people and events that contributed to the formation of the country’s identity and heroic history,” the female student emphasized.
It is undeniable that every field of study has its own difficulties. “Reading history is one thing, but when you start studying and researching history, it is completely different.” The female student majoring in History also had a difficult time and thought “I just want to study quickly to graduate”.
For Mai Phuong, history is not only the past but the foundation for the future.
Mai Phuong confided: “At first, I thought that studying history at university would be just like high school, mainly memorization. However, the major of Historical Science - one of the basic social sciences, requires much more analytical and scientific thinking.”
Mai Phuong does not miss the opportunity to learn from teachers.
But it was her love for history that motivated her to continue her efforts. Mai Phuong began to try her hand at scientific research under the dedicated guidance of her lecturer. “I was fortunate to have her wholeheartedly help me and guide me to participate in writing conference papers. She never criticized my writing despite many shortcomings. Gradually, my confidence increased, overcoming my initial feeling of inferiority,” Phuong confided.
According to Mai Phuong, most people find history boring and difficult to learn because they have to remember every single number. Talking about some tips to turn history from boring and difficult to easy to absorb, Mai Phuong suggests that young people should apply three learning methods.
Female student of Humanities School won many scholarships related to history major.
The first is to create mind maps and charts. This will help learners organize information logically and more easily. Some presentation forms that Mai Phuong suggests are prioritized as: event diagrams, timelines or relationship charts between characters.
Second, use a variety of learning materials. Mai Phuong emphasized: “Don’t just rely on textbooks. You can look for other learning materials such as reference books, documentaries, articles, YouTube videos or podcasts about history. These materials can help you grasp knowledge in a more vivid and engaging way.”
Finally, connect history to real-life stories. “When studying history, try to connect historical events and figures to specific stories or real-life contexts. This will help you visualize and remember the events better,” the third-year student advised.
Phuong said: “Studying history not only provides us with a rich treasure trove of knowledge about Vietnam’s history and culture but also opens the door to exploring the world. Moreover, historical knowledge helps us broaden our horizons, develop critical thinking and analytical skills.” Therefore, every Vietnamese citizen has the responsibility to learn, appreciate history, and draw practical lessons to contribute to the country’s future.
For Mai Phuong, volunteer trips to the highlands not only bring joy and spiritual encouragement to the disadvantaged people but also help her mature.
Not only excelling in her studies, Mai Phuong also actively participates in community activities, beautifying the "history" of youth spirit. She used to hold the role of Deputy Organizing Committee and member of the Organizing Committee in highland volunteer programs such as: "Towards Quang Tri", "Warm spring at the border",... Besides, she also participated in supporting 12th grade students to review for graduation exams, donating blood and many other meaningful activities.
The female student of the Faculty of Humanities has persistently trained in all 5 aspects: good study, good morality, good physical strength, good volunteering and good integration.
