That was the comment of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Viet Thanh - Head of the Department of Politics and Student Affairs of VNU - at the 2009 Student Affairs Conference of VNU held on June 20, 2009 in Do Son, Hai Phong.

The delegation of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, consisting of 10 members led by Associate Professor Dr. Lam Ba Nam - Vice Rector - is one of 10 units of VNU participating in the conference. Attending and directing the conference were Associate Professor Dr. Pham Trong Quat - Party Committee Secretary, Vice Rector of VNU, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Duc - Vice Rector of VNU.

The conference listened to and discussed the summary report of VNU student affairs in the 2008-2009 school year and the direction and tasks for the 2009-2010 school year. In particular, an important topic that took up much of the delegates' debate was how to implement student affairs in the current context of credit training.

In the summary report, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Viet Thanh said that in the past school year, “the work of propagating and educating political and ideological education for students has been carried out regularly and effectively. Since then, the political awareness of students has had many positive changes”. In particular, promoting its own identity, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is one of the leading units of VNU in organizing many widespread and effective activities in educating and raising political and ideological awareness for students.

Next, as one of three typical examples selected to report on achievements at the conference, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities gave a specific presentation on the current situation of student affairs in the past school year. Speaking at the conference, Associate Professor, Dr. Lam Ba Nam said that political and ideological education (CTTT) for students currently has many difficulties, the most difficult of which is how to implement it so that this activity really goes deep into life, not rigid, heavy on slogans, but still ensures the effectiveness of changing and adjusting students' political awareness. In that context, the University has tried to promote its own strengths, closely coordinating with many units inside and outside the school to implement many widespread propaganda activities on the occasion of major national anniversaries. Many activities have resonated with students.

On April 22 and 23, 2009, the Department of Politics and Student Affairs, the Veterans Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, in collaboration with the Vietnam Film Distribution Company, organized a free screening of the movie Don't Burn - about the life of martyr Dang Thuy Tram, attracting more than 3,500 views. From May 7 to 9, 2009, the University, together with the Museum of Revolutionary Soldiers Captured and Imprisoned by the Enemy, organized an exhibition of images, artifacts, and documents about revolutionary soldiers detained by the US puppet regime at Phu Quoc prison. More than 4,500 students from the entire university came to see the exhibition. The touching notes in the Museum's memoirs showed the great influence and influence of the exhibition on the students' thoughts and feelings. Then, on May 9, the exchange "Meeting the steadfast and indomitable people" between students and revolutionary soldiers took place at the university. Many students participating in the exchange expressed their admiration for war heroes, thereby gaining more pride and a deeper understanding of the nation's resistance war against invasion.

In many major activities of the youth of the whole country, students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities always enthusiastically respond with many social activities combined with professional activities. Thanks to the flexibility in organization, skillful application of CTTT education in each specific activity, through these activities, students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities gradually mature, have solid political and ideological qualities, have good personality and ideals, always want to contribute to the development of society and the country.

In addition to the achievements, Associate Professor Dr. Lam Ba Nam pointed out the limitations that the University's student affairs work still faces, such as: the implementation of phase II of the campaign to Study and follow Ho Chi Minh's moral example is still slow, the "following" models are only at the pilot level, small-scale and not yet a movement; professional support and skill development for union members and student associations are still on a small scale. Counseling activities for students are still limited; soft skills training courses have not yet attracted a large number of students to participate. Finally, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities also proposed to VNU a number of points related to the regulations on student affairs, scholarship work, clarifying the support and direction of VNU in a number of movement activities of member units...
