With this achievement, the Vietnamese delegation ranked 8th out of 84 delegations participating in the 2015 International Olympiad in Informatics and ranked first among Southeast Asian countries.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Bao Son, Head of the Faculty of Information Technology, University of Technology, VNU, is the head of the delegation. The University of Technology is the focal point assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training to train the Vietnamese Information Technology team to participate in regional and international competitions.
Pham Van Hanh, a 12th grade student, brought home the Gold Medal for the Vietnamese team.
The three Silver Medal winners are Phan Duc Nhat Minh, 11th grader; Nguyen Viet Dung, 12th grader; and Nguyen Tien Trung Kien, 12th grader.
The Ministry of Education and Training will hold a ceremony to welcome the delegation to the 2015 International Olympiad in Informatics and award the Minister's Certificate of Merit to the winning contestants at Noi Bai International Airport at 1:45 p.m. on August 3, 2015.
Vietnam started participating in the International Olympiad in Informatics in 1989 and achieved high results. The Vietnamese team ranked first overall at the 1999 International Olympiad in Informatics in Türkiye out of 67 participating countries, surpassing strong teams such as Russia, the United States, etc.
Previously, at the 56th International Mathematical Olympiad held in Chiangmai, Thailand, students from the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences won 1 Gold Medal (Nguyen The Hoan, 12th grade student) and 1 Silver Medal (Nguyen Tuan Hai Dang, 11th grade student). Le Xuan Luong (11th grade student, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences) also won a Bronze Medal at the 26th International Biology Olympiad in Aarhus, Denmark. |
