On the morning of April 18, 2009, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, an exchange program was held to celebrate the Vietnamese Day for People with Disabilities, April 18. The program was called "Circle of Friends", organized by the Hoa Da Club (Student Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) in coordination with the Hanoi Disabled Student Club.
Attending the meeting were Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc (Vice President of the Vietnam Student Association), Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan (Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee for the Establishment of the Association of Disabled Youth - Vietnam Youth Union), Ms. Nguyen Mai Lan (Vice President of the Student Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities), the Executive Board and members of the Hanoi Student Club, the Hoa Da Club, representatives of the Association for the Protection of Disabled People and many other organizations of the disabled, along with many volunteer students.
The exchange was held to respond to Vietnam Day for People with Disabilities, and to promote the establishment of the Vietnam Association of Disabled Youth. Many examples of disabled youth and students overcoming difficulties were also introduced in this exchange.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc emphasized the need for a system of organizations for people with disabilities, to unite them, increase their strength and facilitate support for people with disabilities from the Government and the community. Disabled youth, especially disabled students, play a key role in these organizations, because they are also a high-quality human resource, although they have health limitations, but if supported and facilitated, they can develop great strengths, not only to develop themselves but also to help people in similar situations and contribute to society. Support for people with disabilities also needs to be systematic, researched in both theory and practice to enhance scientific, practical and effective nature. Mr. Loc also expressed his admiration for the examples of overcoming difficulties of disabled youth and students, encouraged them and shared the belief that "Where there is a will - There is a way".
Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan shared: "I feel that I need to take more responsibility in mobilizing people to understand and help, creating conditions for people with disabilities to contribute to society." He also proposed a number of measures to support people with disabilities, such as establishing a dedicated information channel for the hearing impaired, developing sign language learning in the community, strengthening the connection between large and small organizations of people with disabilities...
The exchange was held on the occasion of the 1st anniversary of the Hoa Da Disabled Student Group - University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Over the past year, Hoa Da has had many active activities to help disabled students at the University. At the exchange, recognizing the Group's growth, the University's Student Association also announced and officially decided to establish the Hoa Da Club within the system of clubs under the University's Student Association.
Through the exchange, everyone had the opportunity to interact with many examples of disabled people such as Mr. Bach Quang Thai (former Head of the Hanoi Student Club), Ms. Nguyen Thuy Linh (Hanoi Deaf Association) and enjoyed performances from disabled students and comrades in the Executive Committee of the Student Association and the Vietnam Youth Union.
On this occasion, 10 disabled students of Hoa Da Club and Hanoi Student Club received gifts from the Vietnam Youth Union.
