At the invitation of Hawaii Pacific University (Hawaii, USA) and the World Historical Association, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Principal of the school - led a delegation including Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Vice Head of the History Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Le, Head of the Department of Vietnamese History and Dr. Tran Thuy Anh, Deputy Head of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation to visit and work in Hawaii (USA) from October 28 to November 2, 2012.On October 30, 2012, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh had a meeting with Prof. Marc Gilbert, President of the World Historians Association and Mr. Winston Welch, Executive Director to discuss future cooperation directions between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the World Historians Association. At this meeting, the two sides agreed to organize a conference “Vietnam in World History” to be held in January 2014 in Hanoi. The conference “Vietnam in World History” will be a good opportunity to introduce the results of historical research and teaching in Vietnam, and at the same time create conditions for foreign researchers to better understand Vietnamese history. Prof. Marc Gilbert also agreed that the two sides will strengthen cooperation in scientific research and publish research works on Vietnamese and world history. On October 31, 2012, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh visited and signed a cooperation agreement with Hawaii Pacific University. The two sides agreed on the following cooperation contents: exchange of students and lecturers; exchange of publications; co-supervision of master's and doctoral students; co-ordination of organizing seminars and scientific research, especially Hawaii Pacific University will receive staff of the History Department under the Strategic Mission program to study and improve professional qualifications for a period of 3 to 6 months.

In addition, Hawaii Pacific University will also send lecturers and TESOL masters to teach English to lecturers and staff of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Hawaii Pacific University was established in 1965 with 445 teaching staff and 10,000 students. During this visit, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh also met with Professors Liam Kelly (Department of History) and Bacbara Andaya (Department of Southeast Asia) of the University of Hawaii, Manoa to discuss enhancing and expanding research cooperation on Vietnam and Southeast Asia between the two schools. Prof. Nguyen Van Khanh also suggested that Professors at the University of Hawaii, Manoa continue to participate in teaching and co-supervising masters and doctoral students for lecturers and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The trip to visit universities in Hawaii, the United States and the World Historical Society by the school delegation led by Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh ended successfully and opened up new directions for cooperation in Vietnam studies at universities in the United States, especially in the Hawaii area.
