The International Conference on Social Work and Social Policy opened this morning, June 11, 2012. The conference was jointly organized by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, San Jose State University and the Asia-Pacific Association for Social Work Education (USA).

The International Conference on Social Work and Social Policy opened this morning, June 11, 2012. The conference was jointly organized by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, San Jose State University and the Asia-Pacific Association for Social Work Education (USA).Attending the workshop were Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang - Former Minister of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs, Prof. Dr. Angelina Yuen - President of the International Association of Social Work Schools, Prof. Dr. Yuhwa Eva Lu - President of the Asia Pacific Social Work Education Association, Prof. Dr. Alice Hines - Vice President of the School of Applied Sciences and Arts, San Jose State University and more than 100 scientists from Vietnam, the United States, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, New Zealand... In his opening speech, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - affirmed the important role of social work in the development of society and the community. In developing countries, social work is an important field, throughout social life, established, managed and operated as a professional profession. In Vietnam, social work is in the process of developing step by step to reach professionalism. To do that, the social work industry needs support from the State and society. At the same time, Vietnamese social work needs to strengthen international integration, focusing on training a team of highly qualified and good-quality professional staff. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh said: The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU has trained 5 bachelor's courses in social work with positive results and is the first institution to implement master's training in social work. Every year, the University implements many research programs and organizes many seminars on social work, actively expanding international cooperation to promote the development of this field of study. Representative of the Asia-Pacific Association of Social Work Education, Prof. Dr. Yuhwa Eva Lu expressed his desire to learn and build a database on social work in the Asia-Pacific region, promoting the exchange of information and communication between agencies, organizations, and social work professional associations between the US and countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including Vietnam.

After the opening session, delegates will meet and discuss specific contents: Social work with children and families; Social work with people with disabilities and vulnerable groups; Social work in community development; social service system and social policy; social work training and research; Social work and social policy... The workshop will take place over two days, June 11 and 12, 2012.
