The scientific seminar with the theme "Choosing a left-wing theoretical model for a socialist-oriented market economy in Vietnam" was jointly organized by the Center for Policy Research, University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation on November 23-24.Attending the seminar were Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Vice Rector, scientists, experts from the Federal Republic of Germany, researchers, managers of universities, institutes, research centers, Departments, Boards, and Branches of Hanoi City. The opinions of scientists and managers from the Federal Republic of Germany and Vietnam focused on exchanging experiences and theoretical issues in the process of researching the left-wing theoretical model for the socialist-oriented market economy in Vietnam: the humanity of the socialist-oriented market economy, social work, cultural aspects, business ethics in the socialist-oriented market economy, the issue of democracy and the rule of law, environmental protection, disaster prevention in the face of rapid changes in the global climate... Prof. Dr. Vu Cao Dam - Director of the Center for Research and Policy Analysis - in his report introducing the discussion said: after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the world socialist system and the decline of the international communist movement, the world has been witnessing new trends emerging, such as the movement to establish the Fifth International in Latin America with the plan to convene a founding conference in April 2010 but has not yet taken place. In addition, the world has been witnessing the development of the Left movement in Europe, striving for a prosperous economy and a fair and democratic society. Prof. Dr. Vu Cao Dam emphasized: the idea that policy makers are pursuing about a socialist-oriented market economic model has many rich contents. According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha (Institute of Philosophy), ensuring social justice is a basic content of the socialist-oriented market economic development model in Vietnam. To achieve social justice, Vietnam needs to step up the fight against corruption, strengthen legal discipline, and allocate more funds to the social security fund. Looking from the humanistic nature of leftist theory, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Van (Faculty of Philosophy - University of Social Sciences and Humanities) analyzed the relationship between law and ethics in economic development. Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thuy Van said that: to solve some basic problems in the process of building and developing a socialist-oriented market economy in our country today, especially the negative consequences of market economic development, it is necessary to know how to regulate the relationship between law and ethics, to know how to apply flexibility, the transformation of ethical norms into law and vice versa to solve practical problems. Ethical norms existing in the form of law are an effective solution to partly limit the negative impacts of economic development on social life. In addition, some other opinions have also discussed many different issues related to the choice of a left-wing theoretical model for the market economy: Associate Professor, Dr. Luong Dinh Hai (Institute of Human Studies) mentioned the issue of "market economy and left-wing theories in the current global crisis"; Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Ngoc Hien (Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Public Administration) is interested in "the issue of democracy and the rule of law state", Dr. Kiriese Katharina Konstanze (Germany) talked about a new platform of the left in Germany - social conflicts, proposals of the left and public discussions within the Party... "Choosing a left-wing theoretical model for a socialist-oriented market economy in Vietnam" is one of the seminars in the project "Choosing left-wing theories in a changing world" supported by the Rosa-Luxemburg Foundation and coordinated with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in 2009 - 2010 and 2011. Within the framework of the project, many activities were carried out such as: a seminar on "Choosing left-wing theories in a changing world" in September 2009, a seminar on "The inheritance of Marx's ideology in the current left-wing movement" in June 2010, a seminar on "Theoretical foundations of the left from a Marxist perspective" in 2010 and In particular, many studies have been and are being conducted focusing on left-wing theoretical issues and the development of the left in the world... The contents discussed in this seminar will contribute to supplementing understanding and experience about the current process of left-wing theoretical research in our country.
