Exhibition and Conference on commercialization of science and technology products

Attending the event were Mr. Phan Xuan Dung - Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Science, Technology and Environment; Mr. Nguyen Quan - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Science and Technology; Mr. Tran Quang Quy - Deputy Minister of Education and Training; Mr. Nguyen Thai Lai - Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment and representatives of leaders of departments, offices, institutes, ministries, government agencies and some localities.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, VNU President Phung Xuan Nha affirmed: VNU is in the process of building and developing in a research-oriented manner. VNU always determines that scientific and technological activities must aim at improving the quality of university and graduate training. Scientific research activities are implemented in 4 main directions: Natural Sciences - Medicine, Science - Technology - Engineering, Social Sciences and Humanities, Interdisciplinary Sciences aiming to create national products with practical applications, serving humanity.

Assessing the significance of this exhibition and conference on commercialization of science and technology products, Director Phung Xuan Nha said: this is an opportunity to introduce typical science and technology products of VNU, thereby connecting scientists - businesses - managers in ministries, branches and localities; contributing to deepening the cooperative relationship and the process of promoting the commercialization of science and technology products of VNU. In particular, through this event, VNU, businesses and society want to express their respect and recognition of the intelligence, enthusiasm and contributions of scientists.

VNU currently has 349 Professors and Associate Professors (18%), 839 Doctors of Science and PhDs (44%). In addition, every year about 300 highly qualified scientists from within and outside the country come to work at VNU. VNU also has 33 honorary doctors, including many Nobel Prize-winning scientists, economic and political activists... These are the strong scientific and technological potentials of VNU.

In recent years, international publication has become a quality culture in VNU. After 20 years of construction and development, the number of international articles in the ISI system of VNU has increased about 20 times (1993 - 10 articles/year, 2013 - nearly 200 articles/year), accounting for more than 10% of the total number of ISI articles in the country. Many articles have a high number of citations (from 50 to 500 times). The fields of social sciences and humanities, economics, and law have also published nearly 100 articles in international ISI journals. These are important indicators to evaluate both the research level and the level of integration of VNU.

In the period of 2014-2015, VNU prioritizes the development and implementation of key research programs aimed at commercializing scientific and technological products and solutions in the following four groups of fields: Natural Sciences and Medicine: creating the premise to improve the quality of life; Technology and Engineering: promoting the development of the electronics and automation industry; Social Sciences and Humanities and Economics: building the theoretical foundation of innovation with key research programs on culture and society; Interdisciplinary Science: focusing on research programs on Northwest Sustainable Development, Near Real-Time Field Monitoring Technology and Non-traditional Security.

At the Conference, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan highly appreciated the outstanding achievements in scientific research activities of VNU, especially congratulating VNU for having practical scientific and technological products transferred to localities and businesses, as well as having valuable scientific publications in the world's leading scientific journals. With the motto "science for humanity", "science for business", VNU has made efforts in commercializing scientific and technological products, creating connections between universities and businesses, bringing scientific and technological products into real life.

The Minister also called on businesses, especially state-owned economic groups, to cooperate closely with universities and research institutes, and to place orders with universities and research institutes to form scientific and technological tasks, topics and projects to create high-quality products.

At the conference, Minister Nguyen Quan awarded a certificate of merit to VNU for its outstanding contributions to science and technology activities. In the presence of Minister Nguyen Quan, representatives of VNU leaders, together with representatives of ministries, departments, branches, and units of VNU signed 12 cooperation agreements, technology transfer agreements, science and technology products, and consulting cooperation with Ha Nam province and companies and enterprises.

At this exhibition and conference on commercialization of science and technology products, 26 typical science and technology products of VNU were introduced, many of which have been successfully applied and transferred.

At this exhibition, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities introduces the outstanding and unique scientific research results of the University over the past 7 decades, especially the scientific works that have won the Ho Chi Minh Prize, the State Prize, the recent archaeological excavation results of the Museum of Anthropology, multimedia products produced on the modern machinery and equipment system of the Center for Journalism and Communication... The University's exhibition booth attracts many visitors because of its unique features, imbued with national culture in the form of decoration and expression.
