The University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU is a core and pioneering unit in the journey to honor the Vietnamese language.

From 2022, September 8th of each year will be chosen by the Government as the Day to Honor the Vietnamese Language in the Vietnamese community abroad, marking a new glorious journey of the Vietnamese language.
To reach that milestone of important historical and political significance, Hanoi National University has made particularly valuable contributions to the entire process of teaching, promoting and disseminating Vietnamese language and Vietnamese cultural identity to the world.
With the mission of "teaching Vietnamese to international students, developing teaching methods, and training advanced interpreters" granted since 1968, the Vietnamese Language Department of Hanoi University of Science (now the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) has gone through more than 60 years of tradition and 55 years of establishment, becoming the most prestigious address in Vietnam for teaching Vietnamese to foreigners.

Complete 6 leading categories for the international training system on Vietnamese language

From 2012 to 2020, the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Language, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, has completed 6 leading projects for the international training system on Vietnamese language.

The first,Successfully compiled the Vietnamese Language Proficiency Framework for foreigners, applicable nationwide and in many countries (Decision No. 17/2015/TT-BGDDT, September 1, 2015).

Monday,Successfully compiled the Vietnamese proficiency test format according to the Vietnamese proficiency framework for foreigners applied nationwide and in many countries (Decision to promulgate the Test Format No. 2097/QD-BGDDT and Decision to approve the Document guiding the development of test questions and grading according to the Vietnamese proficiency test format for foreigners No. 2098/QD-BGDDT, dated June 21, 2016).

Tuesday,Compile a systematic and professional Vietnamese teacher training program for foreigners.

Wednesday,Training Vietnamese teachers for overseas Vietnamese for the Government (more than 10 courses with thousands of teachers from many countries around the world, conducted directly and online) and meeting the need to train Vietnamese teachers for overseas Vietnamese in accordance with the spirit of Resolution 36 of the Politburo.

Friday,Successfully compiled the Vietnamese language teaching program framework for overseas Vietnamese according to the Vietnamese language competency framework for foreigners (under the project to improve the effectiveness of teaching and learning Vietnamese for overseas Vietnamese, Decision No. 14/QD-TTg, dated January 6, 2017).

Since 2020, Hanoi National University has developed a methodical and drastic investment strategy for the political task of working with overseas Vietnamese.

Accordingly, promoting the progress of concretizing Vietnamese language teaching activities for overseas Vietnamese communities through a series of projects "Strengthening Vietnamese language teaching for overseas Vietnamese" (from 2020) and "Vietnamese language teaching channel for overseas Vietnamese" (from 2022) with a total budget for both projects of up to 12 billion VND from the resources of Hanoi National University.

Carrying out the research, compilation and training tasks with international and humanistic spirit of the Director of Hanoi National University, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has organized a professional group, completing all 19 components of the sub-project, including the corpus serving the digital transformation work in teaching Vietnamese to overseas Vietnamese around the world.

This is the largest corpus, made by the most experienced team of experts from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities with the Vietnamese language and culture ecosystem, serving overseas Vietnamese from a system of learning materials according to the 6-level Vietnamese language competency framework, assessment and testing materials, teaching guides, phonetic correction materials and practical professional documents, suitable for the needs of exchange, communication, trade, tourism, academics... of overseas Vietnamese of all ages.

Overseas Vietnamese can access lessons and practice Vietnamese at a higher level.

On September 8, 2022, the Project Board of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities launched the Vietnamese Language Teaching Channel for Overseas Vietnamese at the Launching Ceremony of the Day to Honor the Vietnamese Language in the Overseas Vietnamese Community (at the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, Ministry of Foreign Affairs).

The source of elementary Vietnamese teaching materials for the Channel belongs to the Project's system on the operating platform of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Opening of Vietnamese language teaching training course for overseas Vietnamese teachers

The online elementary Vietnamese class for overseas Vietnamese since 2022 has served hundreds of diverse learners of many nationalities including 17 countries and territories: China, Korea, Russia, Taiwan, France, USA, Malaysia, UK, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Turkey, Japan, Canada, Switzerland, Greece, Cambodia.

This is a multicultural, multi-national online course, in the form of free service to overseas Vietnamese, contributing to creating breakthrough achievements in people's foreign affairs as well as the journey to carry out the national mission of Hanoi National University.

It is expected that by 2024, this Teaching Channel will become the central address for overseas Vietnamese to practice intermediate-level Vietnamese, an important language foundation for overseas Vietnamese who want to study at university and graduate level in Vietnam.

Overseas Vietnamese learners can access lessons and practice Vietnamese at a higher level, along with an ecosystem of valuable reference materials to promote the spirit of self-study and self-training of overseas Vietnamese, especially the young generation born and raised abroad.

Pioneering and making efforts to build training programs and large-scale projects of the country and the nation, Hanoi National University has left its mark on humanistic education strategy and sharp university management vision with a process of nearly 5 years of drastic investment and completion of the "Project to enhance online Vietnamese language teaching for overseas Vietnamese".

The model of this Key Project has contributed to transforming academic values ​​into practical applications of science and technology, aiming to effectively serve more than 5.3 million overseas Vietnamese.
