Expectations of the Party, State and Government for a world-class university city
20 years ago, the late Prime Minister Vu Van Kiet expressed his vision and great ideas about establishing and focusing investment on two national universities so that Vietnam would soon have world-class universities.
After many difficulties, the ideology of the late Prime Minister Vu Van Kiet has always been nurtured. The project of VNU in Hoa Lac was officially started on December 20, 2003, witnessed by Prime Minister Phan Van Khai, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem and many leaders of ministries, departments, branches and central agencies.
At the working session of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Board of Directors of VNU, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to focus on completing the project of building VNU in Hoa Lac with high determination, great efforts, drastic and effective actions with new thinking and ways of doing things. The Prime Minister requested that the project be implemented in the direction of a national university urban area. The construction can be divided into phases but the planning must have a long-term vision. The Prime Minister suggested a "5 in 1" model in this university urban area: Talent training center; modern technology transfer research center; national and international innovation center; smart and modern university urban area; public-private partnership testing center and research training.
Based on the Prime Minister's direction, VNU has focused all its efforts on realizing the goal of sending 15,000 students to study at Hoa Lac campus. This is consistent with the policy of relocating universities and colleges in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City located in central districts to the suburbs to solve difficulties and inadequacies in space and technical infrastructure conditions of universities and colleges in Hanoi and the impacts of the school system on the overall development of Hanoi.
The overall project to build the VNU in Hoa Lac was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1907/QD-TTg dated October 18, 2013, including 21 component projects with a scale of about 65,000 students; the land area used is about 1,113.7 hectares, of which the VNU component project area is 887.9 hectares; the advanced research facilities area is 112.1 hectares; the resettlement area is 113.7 hectares. The total investment is 25,000 billion VND. The HT1 building complex is 5 stories high with over 14,000 square meters of floor space, with 3 lecture halls with 120 seats, 18 classrooms divided equally on each floor from 50 to 80 seats, 10 laboratories, and 90 other working rooms. The HT2 building complex is 6 stories high, with over 20,000 square meters of floor space, with 2 lecture halls with 120 seats, 4 lecture halls with 80 seats, 22 laboratories, 11 classrooms, and about 100 working rooms with different functions. Both HT1 and HT2 projects are nearly equivalent to the area of the current University of Natural Sciences in Hanoi. The VNU Administration Area is located in the Southeast of the VNU construction investment project in Hoa Lac, convenient for transportation to the clusters of works serving training, scientific research and technology transfer, with an area of over 700 m2. This cluster of works is sponsored by FSI Technology Development and Trade Investment Joint Stock Company in the form of non-refundable and "turnkey". |
Joining in the atmosphere of this solemn ceremony, the Board of Directors and all staff, lecturers and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities also sent fresh flowers, congratulations and expressed their high determination, joining the strong transformation of Hanoi National University at the new Hoa Lac campus.
