Board of Directors received a delegation from Laval University (Canada)

On March 8, Associate Professor Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) chaired a meeting with Ms. Virginie Pesant, Advisor of the International Office, Professor Jean-Philippe Perreault, Faculty of Theology and Religious Sciences, Professor Philippe Le Prestre, Faculty of Social Sciences from Laval University, Canada.
Also attending the reception were leaders of the Department of Cooperation and Development, Faculty of International Studies and Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Hung, lecturer of the Faculty of Philosophy.

At the beginning of the discussion, Ms. Virginie Pesant expressed her gratitude for the warm and solemn welcome the University had given to the delegation. She shared: Previously, Laval University and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities signed a cooperation agreement, but due to the objective impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, some contents have not been implemented or have not been implemented effectively in the past two years. Therefore, this is the right time for both sides to review the cooperation contents and sign specific documents to ensure effective implementation.

On behalf of the University's Board of Directors, Associate Professor, Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh thanked Laval University for its attention to the University, and shared: The issue of religion is a major issue in Vietnam, attracting the attention of domestic and international scholars. As a leading unit in Vietnam in training and researching in the fields of social sciences and humanities, we have soon built a systematic and in-depth training program on religious studies. Recently, the University has established an independent department, the Department of Religious Studies, training from bachelor to doctoral level in religion. In addition, the University also has a Center for Contemporary Religious Studies. Every year, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities welcomes many professors and scientists from educational institutions and religious research centers around the world to lecture, exchange academic knowledge, and has successfully organized many international conferences.

Professor Jean-Philippe Perreault highly appreciated the achievements of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in training, scientific research, and policy consulting on religion, politics, and culture. Therefore, we are looking forward to cooperating with the University in exchanging students, sending experts to participate in training and scientific research activities, or coordinating to implement international projects and scientific seminars on religious issues.

Dr. Vu Anh Thu (Deputy Dean of the Faculty of International Studies), Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Hung (Lecturer of the Faculty of Philosophy) expressed their high agreement with the proposals of experts from Laval University. Expanding the signing with educational institutions and universities around the world that conduct research on social sciences is of great significance, not only promoting the strengths of both sides but also creating open opportunities for students to study, research, and exchange with international friends, thereby contributing to promoting culture and strengthening the friendship between the two countries of Vietnam and Canada.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Hung shared that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will organize an international conference in July this year attracting experts from Japan, Korea, Asia and wishes to invite experts from Laval University to attend.
 
Concluding the meeting, Vice President Lai Quoc Khanh affirmed: "On behalf of the School Board, I would like to thank Laval University for its attention, as well as individual professors and scientists, and pledge to support and promote these cooperative activities. Furthermore, with many years of experience in research and management in the fields of politics, religion, and culture, I highly appreciate the feasibility and significance of the specific cooperation proposals that the two sides have just discussed. After today's meeting, the two sides will sign cooperation documents for each specific content: exchange of students and experts, organization of international seminars and conferences, development of textbooks and monographs as teaching materials for Vietnamese and foreign students. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary training unit, so in addition to the fields of religion, politics, and culture, in the coming time, cooperation can be expanded to many other fields that both sides have needs.
