The book “Some issues on the economics of print journalism” is part of the Journalism and Communication monograph series, co-published and announced by Associate Professor, Dr. Dinh Van Huong and Dr. Bui Chi Trung. The book has theoretical and practical significance in the context of innovation and international integration.

Some issues about the economy of print media

Print newspapers from the perspective of press economics in the context of innovation and international integration, the book focuses on establishing a basic, systematic theory of media economics that is popular in the world today. Surveying, analyzing, and evaluating the current status of the main economic activities of Vietnamese print newspapers in recent years, and at the same time initially systematizing those activities from the perspective of press economics. Systematizing the viewpoints and orientations of the Party and the laws of our State on press and media economic activities in the period of innovation and international integration. Studying the main experiences of the world's press and media economy in order to refer to and apply appropriately to the specific conditions of Vietnamese press and media, including print newspapers. Proposing solutions and recommendations for our country's print newspapers to operate dynamically and effectively in the new context.

Research and analysis data are updated from typical and representative printed newspapers such as Tuoi Tre, Thanh Nien, Tien Phong, Lao Dong, Ho Chi Minh City Police, Vietnamese Students, People's Police...

The monograph is an important document for students, graduate students, researchers studying journalism and communication and those interested in this field. The book consists of 5 chapters with 275 pages:

Chapter I: Overview of economic theories of journalism and media. In this chapter, the authors focus on overviewing economic theories of journalism and media; analyzing the types of structures of the journalism and media market, relationships, costs and production processes; pointing out and analyzing the consumers of the journalism and media market, the public, consumers, influencing socio-cultural factors; competition in the journalism and media market.

Chapter II: Overview of the economic press and media industry. This chapter provides some features of the formation and development of the economic press and media industry in the world. Research on the economic activities of print newspapers in some advanced countries such as the US, UK, France, Japan, India, China.

Chapter III: The Party's guidelines and the laws of the Vietnamese State on press and media economic activities. In this chapter, the authors present the Party's views on press and media economics in the context of new requirements; the State's laws and policy mechanisms for press and media economic activities in our country; the relationship between the Party's views and guidelines and the State's laws on press and media economics.

Chapter IV: Economic activities in the field of print journalism. This chapter provides specific forms of economic activities of print journalism such as: advertising, distribution, corporate models, event organization, business, joint ventures, services... General assessment of economic activities of print journalism.

Chapter V: Improving the economic efficiency of Vietnamese print newspapers. This chapter presents some experiences of foreign press and media economics for reference and application to Vietnamese print newspapers. Some scientific proposals and recommendations and some solutions for developing the print newspaper market.

The book was published by Hanoi National University Publishing House in the first quarter of 2015.
