The topic of the thesis is "The Northern Youth Movement of the Vietnam Labor Party (1965-1975)" conducted by PhD student Nguyen Quang Lieu, defended at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on August 8, 2010.The thesis has studied the process of youth mobilization of the Party in the North during the period 1965 - 1975. During this period, the Party had many important directives on youth work and also from the vivid reality of the youth, the Party's youth mobilization work reached a high and comprehensive development level and had an important effect on the development of the revolution. The research results and theses contribute to clarifying the views of Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnam Workers' Party on the role of youth and youth mobilization in the cause of fighting against the US to save the country from 1965 to 1975. At the same time, they clarify the role and great contributions of Northern youth in the cause of resistance against the US to save the country from 1965 to 1975. Typical are the movements "Three ready", "Three capable", "Hammer in hand, gun in hand", "plow in hand, gun in hand" ... of the Northern youth force that contributed to raising and spreading the movement of the entire people competing in labor production and being ready to fight against the US, save the country, liberate the South, and unify the country. The highlight of the thesis, according to the assessment of Associate Professor, Dr. Doan Ngoc Hai (reviewer 1), is that it has objectively and honestly reproduced the youth movement in the North of the Vietnam Workers' Party in the period of 1965-1975, an issue that had not been studied before. Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Hong Tung commented that the thesis has contributed to explaining one of the mysteries of the war in Vietnam that many countries in the world are interested in and raised the question of why a small country like Vietnam could defeat a powerful country like the United States. And the Party's youth movement policy is one of the important contributions to that great victory. However, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Hong Tung commented: The thesis would be more profound if it mentioned and related to the international youth movement and paid attention to foreign language sources. Especially if more attention was paid to the role of President Ho Chi Minh - a typical example of all time. Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Nhat (Reviewer 2) was concerned about the unclear and inconsistent titles of some chapters of the thesis. Therefore, it is not really clear whether the thesis focuses on the Party's youth movement or the Party's leadership of youth work. Researcher Nguyen Quang Lieu answered many questions from the Council related to the topic, in which he affirmed: The youth movement in the North during the period of 1965-1975 left many valuable lessons in the current youth movement. The open market mechanism has caused the youth to be divided into many different poles, a part of the youth is still full of enthusiasm for dedication, besides that, there is a part that calculates personal interests and another part falls into social evils... Therefore, youth movement must understand the psychology of today's youth who like challenges, take risks and assert themselves. From there, it is possible to launch youth movements for the youth, for the Fatherland. As a result, 6/7 members of the thesis evaluation council were classified as excellent. This is the 101st state-level doctoral thesis of the History Department. The thesis will be a useful reference source for research and teaching of the Communist Party of Vietnam's Revolutionary Path, Ho Chi Minh's thought, and a useful source of material for compiling the history of the Youth Union and Association and educating the revolutionary tradition for the young generation of Vietnam.
