On March 29, 2018, Mr. Anar Imanov (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Vietnam) visited the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and opened a photo exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Azerbaijan's Independence Day here.

Welcoming the Ambassador, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University) expressed his joy and honor to support the Embassy of Azerbaijan in organizing a photo exhibition at the University. This is an opportunity for students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to broaden their understanding of the history and culture of a beautiful country located at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. This is also an opportunity for the Embassy and the University to promote cooperation between the two sides.

Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh delivered a welcoming speech to Mr. Anar Imanov (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Vietnam) and opened a photo exhibition about the land and people of Azerbaijan on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the country's independence (1918-2018).

In the coming academic year, with the support of the Embassy of Azerbaijan, the School will invite lecturers to teach Azerbaijani language to students. In addition, there are opportunities for master's and doctoral scholarships for Vietnamese students in Azerbaijan. In exchange for cooperation, the School will also provide scholarships for Azerbaijani students to study Vietnamese.

After the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan had a talk with students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on two main topics: History, culture, socio-economics of Azerbaijan and the history of Vietnam - Azerbaijan cooperation.

The Rector announced that there will be an Azerbaijani language lecturer to teach students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities next school year.

In 1918, the Republic of Azerbaijan was founded, but the state only existed until 1920. In 1991, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Azerbaijan regained its independence. Today, the Republic of Azerbaijan is a Caucasus country in Eurasia. Located at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia, the country borders the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia to the north, Georgia to the northwest, Armenia to the west and Iran to the south, with an area of 86,600 km² and a population of over 9 million people. The official language of Azerbaijan is Azerbaijani and is spoken by about 95% of the population. Azerbaijan's economy is mainly based on industry: machine building, oil and other mining industries, oil refining, textile products and chemical processing... The first European Games were held in the Azerbaijani capital Baku in 2015 with the participation of 6,000 athletes representing 50 European countries.

Speaking about the relationship between Vietnam and Azerbaijan, the Ambassador said that although the two countries are geographically distant and have different political, economic and social conditions, they have a long-standing traditional friendship and cooperation, and the people of the two countries always consider each other as close friends. In 1959, President Ho Chi Minh visited Azerbaijan. In 1983, Azerbaijani leader Heydar Aliyev visited Vietnam when he was still one of the leaders of the Soviet Union. In 2014, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev visited Vietnam and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Truong Tan Sang visited Azerbaijan.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Vietnam was one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan (1991) and the two countries officially established diplomatic relations shortly thereafter (1992). The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Vietnam was established in 2013. Historically, Azerbaijani experts have made great contributions to the formation and development of Vietnam's oil and gas industry. In the near future, the Azerbaijan-Vietnam Intergovernmental Commission will come into operation and create a strong driving force for bilateral relations between the two countries, promote the implementation of high-level agreements, and strive to bring bilateral trade turnover to 1 billion USD.

Mr. Anar Imanov spoke to students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, introducing the history of the country and people of Azerbaijan. The Ambassador also affirmed that the relationship between the two countries has a long-standing and close tradition.

During the war, thousands of Vietnamese people studied in Azerbaijan, then returned and held various positions in the Party, government and national economy, actively contributing to the construction and development of Vietnam. They were the bridge of friendship and cultural exchange to connect the people of Vietnam and Azerbaijan through the Center for Historical and Cultural Studies of Azerbaijan of the Institute of Policy, Law and Management under the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations and the Vietnam - Azerbaijan Friendship Association.

Mr. Tamerlan Khalilov expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome of the students and the School and hoped that in the near future, he would welcome more Vietnamese students to study and visit Azerbaijan.
